This is the 38th International Sketchcrawl. The idea is to sketch whatever happens over that day, and share on line…..
Jenny, Ethna and I caught the 8.50am ferry to Circular Quay, and worked our way up those lovely old stone steps to Macquarie St ( reminds of the ones in Montmartre) then through the Botanical Gardens to Palm Court Centre.
A big group gathered and Young, one of our Saturday class was excited to be among them. This is big. Maybe 75 sketchers from far and wide.
Spread out, sketch and meet at 12.30.
This is done in my Stillman & Birn 150gsm sketchbook. I’ve done the base in watercolour and gone back with a No 4 black pen for a few lines. Actually added a bit of watercolour pencil detail too.
I could hear lots of noise at one stage, in the usually quiet Botanical Gardens, and discovered a children’s show was happening. I couldn’t get very near, so sketched what I could from a nearby garden. The kids were all under a big fig tree and Ratty and Mole and all the characters performed on the grass, some of them arriving in a little rowing boat on the lake you can just see.
My final sketch before lunch was sitting opposite the ‘giant lotus’ pond and looking towards a number of sketchers under this slightly quirky palm.
Everywhere one looked there were sketchers sketching. Great to see us outnumbering photo takers for a change.
A good day and looking forward to seeing postings on International Sketchcrawl soon. Did we have the biggest number?
