Sketch your Cake before you eat it

My how time flies. We have 6 of these ‘Sketch your Cake and eat it too’ High teas a year.

Our 4th for the year,  we were holding at the redeveloped Quarantine Station, a marvellous north facing headland with views of the harbour on two sides.

It was not quite as much fun if you’d been on an infected ship because you could see freedom but not have it. Not till you were cleared or cured. The third option was no fun at all.

Our group assembled at the reception centre at 2.45 sharp, and awaited our mini bus to the venue where we’d be spending the next two pleasant hours. We were headed for P5. It sounds so much better when you say ‘The first class dining room’ – as it once was.

On arrival our cake displays were placed on the table, and because it was a special function just for us, we could seat ourselves at any of the smaller tables and relax in the leather club chairs.

Waiting to get started

For a while there was complete silence as everybody got stuck into their first sketch. The choice was yours whether to do vignettes, the whole stand, (watch the levels of the plates) and some chose the room itself, with it’s lovely leadlight windows and French doors.

Slowly but surely the sketching one, eating one took over and before long we had a great collection of sketches, and a lot less cake, representing the lovely afternoon we were having. Where else would you rather be, but tucked up in this cosy warm lounge, with views through the palms to the water – on a rainy day.

Christy kindly took some action shots as we went about our business, and before it got dark, we managed pics of everyones work which you’ll see above.

We were a very happy bunch when we boarded our return bus back to our other lives.

Next Sketch your Cake High Tea on Tuesday August 27 at Park Hyatt Hotel in the Rocks. You may book now.
