Week 6. Term two. Perspective.

Oh My! How exciting, Anna here, Erin’s tutor from The Blue mountains. I am posting on her blog this week. Oh the tricks I could get up too…but I shall refrain (this week) and will do my best to showcase all your wonderful work. The tutors have emailed me all the photos they take in class, and I have had a wonderful time viewing them all. So now its your turn to see what great sketches you have come up with.

This week we learnt about simple perspective. Eye level perspective, and 1 point perspective. We also looked at arches.

The week started with our Blue Mountains class. We met at the fabulous Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, for a perfect cup of coffee, and some pecan pie. A few warm up sketches, and off we went into the wonderful world of perspective.

The next class to enter the wonderful world of perspective was Toni’s class on Tuesday morning in Manly. A chilly morning, and lots of concentration meant great results! Take a  look, especially at the wonderful arches of The Manly Pavilion…

Then the evening came, and Kathy’s evening class prepared for a treat. Evening classes after a big day, mean lots of relaxing sketching fun. This evening we learnt about eye level perspective, and a few fun sketches of the local scooters that get about Manly.

The Rocks General class meet at the fabulous Pier 8 cafe in Walsh bay these days, and I can tell you, as their tutor, its hard to get them to leave and go sketching on location its such a fabulous venue.  As a result, I challenged them to a very difficult perspective class.   Lift wells, industrial spaces, and flowing coffee. We do miss one of our class mates who is in Venice with Erin Hill Sketching Holidays, but we “just” survived without her. Take a look at the results. Pretty good don’t you think!

Manly New Sketchers had a class with Gaye this week on eye level perspective too! A warm up of a sketch of the local scooters was fun as well.

The Blue Mountains general class woke to a crisp day, so headed to the whimsical Gingerbread House Cafe for plenty of perspective sketches, and delicious chai tea. Set in a divine old church, and managed by the best chocolate house in the mountains. Beanies , puffer jackets and fingerless gloves on. How good is our sketching life!

Manly’s Thursday general class with the lovely Toni was next to kick off for the week. We again saw a chilly start, and a warm welcome at The Pavilion. Proud of our sketchers for braving the icy Winter southerly, rewarded by hot chocolate upstairs at The Bistro At Manly Pavilion. They looked after us well.

Our Thursday evening class with Kathy, as always involved plenty of interesting new ideas, and wonderful results. Dark papers, and oil pastels, along with a thorough understanding of arches meant fabulous sketches. Oh wow, I just love these all. Well done class.

The Rocks New Sketchers class took on the challenge of perspective too this week. We mostly had fun, especially when we understood that it is a basic formula, and if we stick to it, then everything falls into place.

Manly Friday General class, and what great sketches, food and camaraderie was to be had. Kathy took her sketchers and sketching skills to the Pavilion for fun with arches.

Well learning perspective for the first time can be rather daunting, but Toni makes it easy and fun using our simple method. Here you see her Friday Manly new sketchers class sketching the corner of the room, working in pairs to find eye level on real estate pages, and location sketching.
Happy campers!

Our week on perspective has just begun for the Saturday classes. Here you see the General class in winter woollies at the pavillion having a wonderful time with arches.

The last class of our week, before we come back again for more lovely cafe hangs, location sketching, and skill learning is the New Sketchers on Manly saturday. Oh wait up! You have a model scooter in your class Gaye!? What a great idea for a warm up sketch.

Well I do hope you enjoy perusing the wonderful sketches from this weeks Erin Hill Sketching Classes. Until next week, have a wonderful sketchy time, Anna 🙂
