Sketching with The Executive Connection

August 17, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketching with The Executive Connection. Saturday August 16 ’14 Talk about connections. That’s how the world works. It turns out the Executive Connection members were having one of their annual Seminars this weekend. TEC is an international business group designed to connect, inspire, and challenge business leaders through enhanced leadership, strategic focus and practical solutions.  People generally meet once a month for workshops, guest speakers and discussions.  The chosen place for the annual sojourn including partners would be Watson’s Bay […]

“Sketching Makes Me Glad I’m Alive”

November 9, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

One of my sketchers sent me this article, by Andrew Marr, a life-long sketcher, who is exhibiting in London, and responds to the deafening disapproval by ‘Real Artists’ that we sketchers would dare to call what we do Art. Fascinating. “Art snobs sneer at amateurs like me – but painting makes me glad I’m alive”  Survivor ANDREW MARR on a life-changing passion.   ‘One of the most southerly town in Chile, en route to Tierra del Fuego’   Look around, and you […]

Manly Impressions

Exhibiting at Raglan Gallery, one of our Sketchers.

April 19, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a great show. Karen is one of our sketchers, and had made mention that she’d had some work accepted at Raglan Gallery, one of the best galleries in Manly. Known for some excellent contemporary works, glass and ceramics. But that had been some time back. Then she rang to say her work was in a ‘small paintings’ show opening on Friday night. Of course I’d go. This is a huge achievement. To have paintings accepted to start with and […]

Archibald Prize Exhibition – more than Sketching

April 18, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s nice to have a chance to grab some culture and go take in the Archibald Prize, Australia’s most popular and controversial portrait prize. You can guarantee you’ll be aghast at some of it, intrigued by some and puzzled by a lot of it and delighted by a few.  It certainly stretches your mind to what is possible or impossible. Three of us wanted to have a Sketching visit and see what we thought. And we did have thoughts! Our […]

Sydney turns on one of it’s best

May 8, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Up early, perfect blue sky through the curtains, sit for a minute having my porridge, off to catch the 8.50am ferry to Sydney. Grab a coffee at the cafe I like on the beach edge, get the little legs going nineteen to the dozen to the wharf. Pure joy. What a day. Sydney delivers these just to remind you it can. One of it’s best. Not a breath of wind. Clear air. Harbour vistas to die for. Found a good […]

Sunrise, Walkway to Manly

Sunrise Sketch & Sunday Sketch group

September 18, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

Did a quick sketch on Friday, to show the class on Sunday. If you know your location and have good reference, it CAN work to sketch from. Here was a 5.40am sunrise recently which was sooooo beautiful. I do prefer sketches are done in that moment of course, but somehow in my pj’s , cup of tea in hand and sans sketchbook – the camera was the best I could do. It happens. By sketching in the bones of it […]

Lunch with Margaret Olley

Lunch with Margaret Olley

January 7, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

I was about to sit down with my lunch and look at my new book. I liked the little still-life that was suddenly in front of me and grabbed my drawing pen and sketchbook. Nothing like knowing you can’t eat till you finish to speed things along. I even had to put the colour on, before I forgot how it looked. This was my plate of apple quarters and 3 crackers spread with Mersey Valley Vintage cheddar and a ‘flat’ […]

2010 in review

January 2, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

I thought these stats were most interesting, from the WordPress people. I write my art journal as a critique of my own art world, which helps me sort out where I’m going and how I’m progressing. The feedback keeps me motivated. It can be lonely out here sometimes. Thanks everyone. I don’t feel so alone now. The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog […]
