Sketching Boston, with a dash of NYC.

June 25, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’m surprised by how much water and shoreline I can see from the plane as we make our landing. Boston. What will I think. How will it be. Well, it’ll take a few days of images and impressions to float by me before I’ll begin to know. Spring has certainly sprung. I know it snowed recently so I’m surprised that it’s so hot and blue. Clear Cobalt. 27degrees. New green shoots on the sycamore trees are a smudge of Sap […]

Manly Impressions

Exhibiting at Raglan Gallery, one of our Sketchers.

April 19, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a great show. Karen is one of our sketchers, and had made mention that she’d had some work accepted at Raglan Gallery, one of the best galleries in Manly. Known for some excellent contemporary works, glass and ceramics. But that had been some time back. Then she rang to say her work was in a ‘small paintings’ show opening on Friday night. Of course I’d go. This is a huge achievement. To have paintings accepted to start with and […]

Archibald Prize Exhibition – more than Sketching

April 18, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s nice to have a chance to grab some culture and go take in the Archibald Prize, Australia’s most popular and controversial portrait prize. You can guarantee you’ll be aghast at some of it, intrigued by some and puzzled by a lot of it and delighted by a few.  It certainly stretches your mind to what is possible or impossible. Three of us wanted to have a Sketching visit and see what we thought. And we did have thoughts! Our […]

Courage & Creativity – Erin Hill Guest Speaker

December 6, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’m part of something new. ‘The Women’s Empowerment Group’. We started it after a previous symposium on creating awareness of girl babies aborted before birth mainly in India. My friend Vicki Grace had been part of a very moving Art exhibition at Conny Dietzschold’s Crown Street, East Sydney Gallery, a few months prior, helping to draw attention to this appalling situation and we’d all been at the Symposium the same week. This just  seems so overwhelming and one wonders how […]

Sketching Yogis Day Out

October 3, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a lovely day we had together. Our yoga – Sketch group – we  do enjoy our times together. Jo had organised us to meet and view the Portia Geach portrait prize at S.H. Ervin Gallery atop Observatory Hill. We would meet at 10 and sketch around a bit till the Gallery opened. I arrived earlier, to find a coffee spot and do a little sketching. I was so thrilled to find the Agar Steps leading down to Kent Street […]

MCA & Biennale

Sketching at MCA

July 6, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

We’re on Term break, so some of us decided to grab a bit of ‘culture’ with a visit to the MCA and Biennale. There is a fab new wing so the 4 levels now spread between old and new, not that you are aware once trying to figure out some of the artwork. We were very keen to check out Lee Mingwei and ‘The Mending Project’. Such a fascinating project and idea. You can see all the big cotton reels […]

Sydney turns on one of it’s best

May 8, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Up early, perfect blue sky through the curtains, sit for a minute having my porridge, off to catch the 8.50am ferry to Sydney. Grab a coffee at the cafe I like on the beach edge, get the little legs going nineteen to the dozen to the wharf. Pure joy. What a day. Sydney delivers these just to remind you it can. One of it’s best. Not a breath of wind. Clear air. Harbour vistas to die for. Found a good […]

Sketch your Cake at Bathers' Pavilion

SKETCHyourCAKE (and eat it too)

March 29, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Now a regular event every second month. It’s a great chance for foodies to learn to sketch fabulous dishes quickly. It’s just 2 hours and because the display is right there in front of us, we will learn very fast how to observe and get it on paper.Somehow knowing you’ll soon be eating that exquisite morsel is a great incentive to sketch at high speed. Bookings Erin 0412 141 223 / erin@erinhill.com.au I’m suggesting watercolour pencils over the black line […]

Desert at Bather's Pavilion with friends

A Very Sketchable Dessert

March 17, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

It was a most delightful evening with two dedicated Sketcher friends. I’m talking SERIOUSLY dedicated. Every day a sketch or 3. International Symposiums. Sketching kit always in their handbags. You see what I mean!! Guess who forgot hers!! This was Alissa and Liz who hadn’t seen my exhibition at Bather’s Pavilion. We’d therefore decided to make a night of it which we surely did. It was so wonderful having such intense conversation about every possible aspect of sketching. How it differs […]
