A Very Stylish Affair

March 7, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Oh they put on a 5 Star Opening at The Bather’s Pavilion. Between 6.30 and 8.30 the invited guests cruised up the grand staircase to the exhibition upstairs. Da daaa. Those who’d been before knew that if they went up the far stairs, they’d get their first glass before coming round to be greeted. The staff had the wines chilled, glasses ready. A Clearview Sparkling Chardonnay, or Semillon, and for those who prefer a red, V3 2007 Cabernet/Shiraz.  These from […]

It’s Up and Hanging

March 2, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Well it’s done. The paintings are hung. The exhibition is ready. At The Bather’s Pavilion Balmoral Beach. So glad the Opening isn’t till Tuesday night. Time to tweek anything that needs it. I will even arrive refreshed and ready to rock n roll. It rained all day but the paintings were already in the storeroom. Somehow having the best coffee available downstairs means I’m very happy. I admit I had a moment as I carried the last of the paintings […]

Balmoral- Acrylic and Oil Stick

My Feature Sketch

February 16, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

I may well be able to get back to the Studio. Weddings, moving house, a little eye surgery and intermittent  internet, certainly creates a hiccup when one has a major exhibition on the horizon. I did get the line sketch onto the acrylic under painting for the metre square Balmoral feature work however. It’s in the Studio window and seems to be getting a positive response. It’s very strong, very simple, very clear colour. There are only a few smaller […]

Blue Anenomes, French Window

Blue Anenomes, French Window

September 28, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

The second wrinkly textured canvas has been completed. They seem to happening more easily now that I have some ideas in my head about the style I want. Definitely liking the French influence as well as creating a view into the painting. The two look quite good together too. Yellow Daisies and Blue Anenomes. Still a third canvas coming up for it’s turn – that’s going to be a Balmoral one. You can see I’m beginning to pay attention to […]

Tropical Manly - decorative

Tropical Manly

September 1, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

‘Tropical Manly’ is the last one to be completed before the exhibition Opening on Saturday. I have hung the groups in their varying styles, which I prefer, rather than mixing them all around. Because I have location sketches, Watercolours, decorative Acrylics and major acrylics – they look best if grouped sort of together. Other artists will know how tricky the hanging part is. I started a couple of days back, lived with it, then changed about a bit – and […]

Soft Edges and Muted Colour

May 10, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

I was approached recently by a local school who had a novel fundraising idea. As many local artists as possible were approached to see if they would paint, write, scribble, decorate  a 12inch canvas. Well they supplied the canvas and a big padded bag to return it to them so how could I not. No signature or clue as to who had created the work would be visible when all the paintings hang on the night of the Art Show […]

The Invitation

Vicki Grace – Meditations – Exhibition

December 4, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

This lovely invitation shows details from Vicki Grace’s newest paintings. The show is being held in her own studio in Newtown, Sydney. It’s a large old converted warehouse, with huge wall space and perfect for the large works that Vicki produces. I loved that she is using quite strong colour combinations for this show, but counter balanced with more muted ones. As she says ‘ Yin & yang’. Vicki paints emotions. A keen yoga person, she regularly trots off to […]

Fairlight Beach & Pool

The Painted Beach

September 10, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

This weekend is Open Studio as part of the Manly Arts Festival. Luckily I had opened the Studio in time to be on their website program. I have a nice big notice on my window saying I will be open so we will see what happens. Not that I will be sitting on my thumb, as I’ve gessoed the next paper and got the first layer of thin acrylic down. Yellow. I haven’t decided what colour will go next. Then […]

Opening at Gallery8, Sydney

Women Artists Worth Seeing

September 8, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s funny how things work out. I’d seen Galleryeight on ‘Art Forum’ and liked the sound of the people, the venue, the Artists they are attracting, and decided it might be a Gallery I’d like to show in myself. There was an Opening happening on Tuesday night so Milton and I decided to attend. It’s in the historic part of Sydney town right next door to the oldest hotel which is a tourist attraction in itself. It’s not a big […]
