Sketch&Lunch. A taste of Vietnam

June 10, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&Lunch We meet once a month (last Monday of the month) for some sketching, shopping of unique ingredients and eating of delicious lunch. Our first ever Sketch&Lunch was all about Vietnam this month. We met at the water buffalo and decided to sketch it whilst waiting for the rest of the group to join us. The water buffalo is on Freedom plaza in Cabramatta.   Next we headed to the Vietnamese bakery, where I introduced students to the delights of […]

Week3.Term3. Mixing Mediums

August 6, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

EHS Sydney General Sketching Music…Fabulous work this week. Everyone found something they were happy to sketch, the drum, pan flute, the guitar, music stand and cornet.  Mixing media is what we’re doing lots of. So there was paint, charcoal, water brushes, ink and bamboo pens. We love what you’ve done with lovely old music sheets as paper and the sketches in your books. So much character and so much expression in your line and use of colour. And now we know […]

Open Day in the Studio. Saturday Jan 18th.

January 11, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Our big day was today. Cannot believe it’s a year since our last highly successful one. Saturday January 18th between 11am – 3pm and we had a steady stream of interested people pop in for some nibbles and refreshments – and to find out all about what we do. There is Travel Sketching. But there is more…. Everybody had either seen us on Weekend Notes, Australian Artist Magazine, our website, or simply picked up a leaflet walking by and some […]

Paperbags & Windmills

February 3, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Our first classes for 2013 are off to a flying start after our long summer break. So take a look at what our sketchers achieved this week, including several new people. THURSDAY JAN 31 ’13 Some of our class are still away, so the new kids in school had my full attention. Who would have thought that paperbags, string and scissors would be a sketch. It meant your shapes could be a little taller or wider and it would still look […]

Open Day in the Studio

January 18, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It occurred to me that one of the nicest ways to let everyone know more about our Sketching Classes is to invite them in….. So we whizzed up a cute poster and have told as many news outlets we can, that the doors will be flung open. That’ll be Saturday Jan 26th 11am – 3pm at 97 Sydney Rd, Manly, Sydney. Parking available in side streets. We’ll have coffee brewing, muffins and other nibbles to try. I’ll be there, plus […]

July 13, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

You will see below Sketch Class pics and reviews for many of Term 2 2012 Classes. Find out about Travel Sketch Classes – no experience needed – click here. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THURSDAY JULY 5 We were on Term Holidays so some of us decided to have a little ‘culture’ and visit the MCA and see part of the Biennale, plus selected Australian Contemporary painters. One of the very first installations we were keen to see was ‘The Mending Project’ with hundreds of giant […]

Sunrise, Walkway to Manly

Sunrise Sketch & Sunday Sketch group

September 18, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

Did a quick sketch on Friday, to show the class on Sunday. If you know your location and have good reference, it CAN work to sketch from. Here was a 5.40am sunrise recently which was sooooo beautiful. I do prefer sketches are done in that moment of course, but somehow in my pj’s , cup of tea in hand and sans sketchbook – the camera was the best I could do. It happens. By sketching in the bones of it […]

Chalk Life Drawing from 1987

Life Drawing from 1987

September 20, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

This was a blast from the past. I had a Facebook entry from a family member saying they’d seen this for sale on ebay. It was offered as a framed work by artist Erin Hill but not dated. I was pleased I was credited and intrigued.  I felt quite proud that someone felt it had value. I wonder what it sold for! I remember doing many of these at life class at Julian Ashton Art School, between 1986 and 1990. […]
