Sketching Teapots & Windmills

August 23, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Just a few observations I’d like to talk about as we complete week 6. With every group each term, this is about the time some may begin to worry that you are not progressing.   Not everybody, but some.   Somehow it seems harder.  But you are not alone. This is how many feel and worry they are the only one. We do plateau at a point where we think it should be easier.  We are asking more of ourselves, so we […]

Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden

December 16, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY DECEMBER 12 ’13 Hello’ it’s Christy here. Today we were off to sketch ‘Wendy Whiteley’s Garden’, also known as the ‘Secret Garden’.  And the secret is out. This garden, snugly situated in Lavender Bay is  well worth visiting and our group were in for a special day of sketching. There were 3 of us on the ferry from Manly to Luna Park today, where we’d be meeting up with everyone. The ferry ride to the city always feels special […]

Sketch Your Own Greeting Cards

November 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 28 ’13 An exciting time of year for us. Making our own sketch Christmas/ Birthday/ Thank you/ Goodbye Greeting Cards. Somehow when you hear Carols coming out of the ceiling in lifts – you know it’s that time of year. We have some very high quality blank cards, which you do any sketch you like, straight on to the tiny space the window allows. We have a big collection of decorations to pick from, and you do as […]

Sunset Christmas Card Sketching

November 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 27 ’13 It was almost as though our end of term had come a week early during our sunset sketching this time! There was a celebratory feel in the air tonight with Erin leaving us some lovely wine and nibbles, seeing as we were not going out to a restaurant as usual. Knowing we would be well watered and fed, we settled in and spent the evening in the studio. Large glasses of white wine were poured, upbeat […]

Each Other & Walk&Sketch time

October 26, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY OCTOBER 24 ’13 My goodness what a gorgeous day. Only a hint of bushfire smoke first thing, and they say the worst may be over. So off I go to the Studio to be there good and early as I like to be. Then I can set up the still life for the day.  I have little roses Ive found on the way here, in a jar on each table –  because I like them. But today is different. […]

Next Sketch your Cake – March 25 ’14

June 7, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

If this gorgeous sketch doesn’t inspire you to take up your pens and sketchbook, and hurry to join our next “Sketch your Cake’ High Tea – then I’m amazed. I’m pleased to announce we’ve made a special arrangement with the management at Quarantine Station to hold our next High Tea in one of their beautifully restored function rooms. This will mean sketchers will have a unique experience on this wonderful headland of Sydney, with views all the way to the […]

Murder, al fresco, Milo on the cover

Milo Stars in a Murder Mystery

March 24, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Well he does star on the front cover. Take a look. Frances Patton Statham is an American writer of ‘hard to put down’ mystery novels. I had a request early on in the writing of ‘Murder, al fresco’ to use the sketch of Milo the cat gazing across a lily pond, towards a French provincial cottage. Of course Milo gave his permission to be a star. He’s quite a popular cat nowadays. Off went his image and then one day […]

Sketch your Cake- and eat it too

February 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

This was our first 2013 Sketch your Cake High Tea. When someone says ‘I think I’ve died and gone to heaven’, you know everything is close to perfect. This is Gunner’s Barracks’ an old stone building, once the Officer’s Mess, and now so elegantly set up for dining. With views to Sydney harbour you can’t keep your eyes off, until your High Tea is served. For us it’s much more about the ‘look’ to begin with as all this needs to […]

Thurs Dec 6. Cards to celebrate

Angels with Wonky Halos & More

December 8, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s that time of the year again. Time to make our little square Christmas cards from our own sketches. THURSDAY & FRIDAY  DEC 6 & 7 ’12 The lovely thing here is it’s one of the few times we are doing our work to bring some of the joy to others, that we get from creating these tiny original pieces of artwork. They are even cute enough to frame. Generally I say to people that sketching in itself is purely […]
