Advanced Sketching. Twigs & Coloured Inks.

June 27, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

ADVANCED SKETCHING  FRIDAY 11.30AM.  JUNE 27 ’14 We arrive as Judy’s class is leaving. Everybody greets each other like long lost friends.  Well we are. Oh and Happy Birthday Judy. What better way to spend it! Today in Advanced sketching, we will work with twigs and coloured inks.  A pile of varying sized twigs to choose as people put out what they’ve found on the way. The inks are the 4 primary colours but not black. Once again we decide […]

Advanced Sketching. Water Soluble Wax Crayons

June 14, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Great sketching weather this week. This meant our Advanced class could try out their techniques outside today. For this week we are trying Caran D’ache water soluble wax crayons.  We have a small tin of them so everyone can share the colours to start their sketch.  Each sketcher creates their own warmup still life, either with things from the Studio, or something from home. Some very appealing choices including a tiny Dog on the Tuckerbox , from the classic Aussie legend. Tape […]

Pardon the pun, but we’re just so excited today. The young Royals are visiting Manly. Kate, William and baby by George. However let us not be distracted a minute longer as there are things you need to know. Do you like the idea of discovering parts of Manly you didn’t know existed? Would you like to try a different Manly cafe every week? Then you’d better sign up to our Out&about Sketch Classes – beginners to Advanced – at ErinHill Studio. All the […]

Pearl Farm and Ganesh Festival. Daku Resort Fiji

October 2, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Wednesday Sept 18. Can you believe it is slightly cloudy today. We skip yoga as we don’t like to be time pressured here, and need to be at JHunter Pearl depot very soon. There is a growing and successful young pearl business here in Fiji. The complete process is managed by professionally trained people and employs local as well. These are unique world wide because there are gorgeous luminous colours between the classic black and white pearls. The beds are […]

Yoga, Markets, Shopping at Daku Resort Fiji

September 30, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday Sept 16 We are so lucky having this balmy warm weather, and very little rain. That seems to fall during the night if at all. Some sketchers are out walking at 6am and others are now keen to join in. We are also completing breakfast earlier which means we can start our yoga and be energized to begin our sketching day. Today Jan and Therese lead the session following Jo’s Travel Yoga sketches. All created just for us as […]

The Sketchers arrive. First Afternoon at Daku

September 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Saturday Sept 14 You can hear the fan whirring at first light. You remember where you are. It’s Fiji. The group will arrive later today. Can’t wait. And it’s balmy and warm outside. The sun is streaming across our balcony and its time to rise and shine. My cuppa tea sitting out here never tasted so good. Breakfast seems like a good idea. I love papaya straight off the trees. Milton likes the jam made from apple jelly on his […]

Baskets, Manly Ferry & the Cove

May 11, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY MAY 9 ’13 I know I keep talking about the weather but it’s just too beautiful. Downunder we should be headed for cold. That’s usually june. MMmmm. In the Studio where all the action was, we were doing baskets. Round ones, long ones, lidded ones and 2 little old dolls from Peru. A nice touch. Yes there are some challenges. Getting each shape right, getting the inside shadows to show corners turning, the light on top, the darker sides […]

Pumpkins, Capsicums and Soldiers

February 23, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Our still life for this week were tiny mottled pumpkins in colours of marigold and forest green. On our other table, red green and yellow capsicums (bell peppers to some of you) with asparagus and brown mushrooms. THURSDAY FEB 21 ’13 So attractive to view and such rich colour to capture. All versions you see above tell the story so well. Each one a personal sketch of how it looked to to them. When we hold sketches up as progress […]

Cafe/Sketchup at Belgrave Cartel

January 11, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Still holidays but Monica was back in town, so couldn’t wait to organise a sketch and catchup. When I arrived at 10ish or so, I wandered out to the spacious back room, off the sun lit side passage, to see at least 3 of the girls totally absorbed in their sketching already. Belgrave Cartel is once again one of our fave meetup places to sketch. Since the renovations they’ve opened up a back room now connected by a sunny walkway […]
