Saturday Workshops & Monday Sketchclub

December 2, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

We have been very busy with our Saturday Workshops lately, and the last two were “A Taste of Sketching” ( Nov 22 ) and “Loosen up with Watercolour”(Nov 8) It’s lovely to have the best part of a whole day to really concentrate on techniques and getting results.  With our Loosen up with Watercolour Workshop the aim was not to produce our usual sketches at the end but rather to practice some key skills until we got them right. The focus […]

Travelling North.2.

December 31, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Leaving Taupo, our next destination is Havelock North. Everywhere you look it’s bursting with vineyards, all well known if you’re a wine buff. Cafes, galleries, restaurants and boutiques line the streets which span from the central roundabout. Time to find our B&B for the next 2 nights, and after driving seemingly a long way into the country, past the grazing sheep and cows, we find the bougainvillaea gates to Havelock House. This is downtime for us. To be up to […]

Sketch Your Own Greeting Cards

November 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 28 ’13 An exciting time of year for us. Making our own sketch Christmas/ Birthday/ Thank you/ Goodbye Greeting Cards. Somehow when you hear Carols coming out of the ceiling in lifts – you know it’s that time of year. We have some very high quality blank cards, which you do any sketch you like, straight on to the tiny space the window allows. We have a big collection of decorations to pick from, and you do as […]

Sunset Christmas Card Sketching

November 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 27 ’13 It was almost as though our end of term had come a week early during our sunset sketching this time! There was a celebratory feel in the air tonight with Erin leaving us some lovely wine and nibbles, seeing as we were not going out to a restaurant as usual. Knowing we would be well watered and fed, we settled in and spent the evening in the studio. Large glasses of white wine were poured, upbeat […]

Sketching Christmas Party

November 26, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday November 25th 2013. It’s not actually the end of the year. In fact it’s only just past the 11th moon. But we in the Sketching Studio like to be ahead of the pack. So our Christmas end of the year celebration would be earlier than most. At least everybody would remember it. We don’t like to be one of several parties in town on the same night. Far out brussell sprout! Not for us. Not at all too early […]

The Glazed ham is ready

Such a Good Day

December 26, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Milton stayed up late the night before to prepare his ‘special’ glaze for the ham. Then it was into the oven for a slow bake to goldenise the whole thing. We had heaps to do before everyone would arrive for a late lunch, but I sat down in the middle of everything to do a sketch anyway. Luckily Joanna ( back briefly from Glasgow) had worked out a plan of what everyone would be doing to get this Christmas Day […]

Early Morning on the Cove

It Must be Christmas…..

December 24, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

It must be Christmas when….. the yachts and launches moor overnight in the Cove….This is the glorious sight I beheld this morning as I sat out to sketch the soft colour with everything almost in silhouette. Earlier in December a few begin to stay over on weekends. On boxing day there will be dozens and for NY eve you could walk across the bay over them and not touch the sea. It must be Christmas when…. we have the biggest […]

Pre Christmas Goings-On

December 23, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Somehow once we hit December, it feels like it’s all over. I do love Christmas time, but it feels like everything has to be squeezed in before the big day. I have learned to take quiet moments and here are a few, in no particular order. Found these funny little chaps at the new Christmas Shop where I bought all the decos we used for Sketch Classes. I just love these fat little characters and I think they’ll take pride […]

Christmas chocolate from Cafe Chocolat

Indulge Your Senses

December 19, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Well that’s what it demands I do. Cafe Chocolat it says ‘Indulge your senses’ right there on the box. So of course I already have. But before I popped another divine little creation into my waiting mouth – I stopped – I could see a sketch coming on, so announced to the waiting throng that no one could have another. Whew. Managed to arrange the shapes into a tree form and began to sketch furiously. Meantime ‘they’ are hovering over […]
