Sketch&French Week 5. Let’s repeat that.

March 7, 2015 by Erin Hill Sketching

Goodness. Week 5 already. Last one in our course! One of our sketchers arrives with a huge bunch of peacock feathers. They come from the peacocks which strut their stuff on her property.  She travels over 4 hrs every week to come to S&F, and this week with feathers.  The colours have us oohing and aaaahing. Today we would do some real travel sketching and go round the corner to George St, and sketch the pink house.   Using flat perspective […]

Sketch&French. A little sketching & A little French. Ooh la la.

February 3, 2015 by Erin Hill Sketching

Week 1. Monday Feb 2 ’15. Our first class for Term 1 on a bright Monday morning is Sketch&French. We will be starting with sketching and we have already two gorgeous flower studies we’ll be observing. Some of our people are already sketchers, so they will be doing the more complex flowers and leaves. For those new to the game, we choose the simple clear red hibiscus, and we get started. Our first class is about ‘seeing’ and we move […]

Comment fait-on pour aller á l’aéroport?

September 1, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French 9.30am Monday September 1 ’14. Not a spot of rain to be seen. In fact a lovely bright and clear Spring morning Just a small class with another of our S&F being unwell. So today we would learn about getting around and asking the way. We talked about buying tickets to the airport, getting buses, getting the metro Sandrine had questions ready for us to ask and answer, and she doesn’t slow down. That’s the way you’ll hear the language […]

Combien y a t-il d’arrondissements á Paris?

August 25, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French 9h30 du matin Lundi 25 Août ’14 It is so blue and lovely today. A bright sunny day to continue our classes by 3 more weeks. This is just a small group of dedicated students keen to carry on the learning they’ve started to get a handle on. Today’s French conversation with Sandrine would be about the 20 arrondissements of Paris, locating monuments and famous landmarks, and of course opening and closing times. Sandrine had a wonderful Paris city […]

Quelle est la date aujourd’hui?

August 18, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French. Neuf heures trente. Le 18 Aout. Well you know that deal I have with the weather. It didn’t work for long. Absolutely bucketing down out there. I was bringing our house guest to today’s class because she was keen to see what happens in a S&F class. Sandrine was doing quite a bit of revision today, which is a very good idea. The kind of questions you’d want to ask plus the answers you’d expect to hear.  Everything from […]

Excusez-moi, oú est …?

August 4, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French 9.30am Monday August 4 ’14 A gorgeous day for our French&Sketchers to be out bright and early ready for our 3rd week of partaking a little language and art. Sandrine had created a street map (plan) for today’s lesson, which based on ‘Asking & Giving Directions’. She laid it on the table and went through a list of words on our sheets which were the essential ones needed to string a question or answer together. It was a clever game, as […]

Je Voudrais Deux Croissants, S’il Vous Plaît?

July 28, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French. 9.30am. July 28 ’14. Everybody arrived bright, keen and ready to immerse themselves in some new French phrases. Sandrine had created leaflets with groups of words and phrases which are absolutely essential if you need to have dialogue of any sort in France, particularly if you have croissants in mind.  The French do not necessarily speak fluent English so you need to meet them half way. As Sandrine says, they are very proud of their beautiful language and do […]

Bonjour mon nom est….

July 21, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French. Monday 9.30am. July 21 ’14 The Studio was a nice warm place to come into on this slightly chilly day. Our students arrive all slightly hesitant about what they’d let themselves in for, as one always is on the first day of anything new.  No need to worry. Sandrine was probably just as worried, as she hadn’t tutored one of our classes before either, but she didn’t show it.  So I was the only one who could happily sit […]
