Travelling North.2.

December 31, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Leaving Taupo, our next destination is Havelock North. Everywhere you look it’s bursting with vineyards, all well known if you’re a wine buff. Cafes, galleries, restaurants and boutiques line the streets which span from the central roundabout. Time to find our B&B for the next 2 nights, and after driving seemingly a long way into the country, past the grazing sheep and cows, we find the bougainvillaea gates to Havelock House. This is downtime for us. To be up to […]

My Sketching Plans – thinking of Trausse- Minervois

February 3, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

How exciting to find things on the net. I am now a member of –  Languedoc-Roussillon on SURVIVE FRANCE NETWORK Because I subscribe to a newsletter from the region, I saw that local blogs were in the menu. Of course I was interested and found Annette Morris had a gorgeous one about the trials and tribulations of living and working in France.  Annette very kindly suggested I join the above website, which I now have. This is a quick sketch […]

La Remise Chez Capper

Sketches of Stone Cottages in Trausse, South of France

June 17, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

This is about it. Last of the drawings but not of two paintings I’ve yet to show. Both in the Summer Kitchen Garden and in my newer look. La Remise is where Marilyn and Steve live for half the year. Summer in France, and summer in Australia. Nice way to have it. This was the old barn and is now a gorgeous home where they work, looking after their 3 stone cottages and the people staying, plus entertain their myriad […]

Finally to Trausse-Minervois

June 13, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

It was soooo good to arrive in Trausse again. Quick Easyjet to Toulousse, grab the rental and 1 1/2 hrs later we pull into the village parking under the plane trees, where those pesky birds plan to decorate our polished Renault. It felt like coming home. Thankfully Marilyn and Steve had dinner ready so we dropped our bags in the Summer Kitchen and  hurried along the stoney pathway past all the full bloom roses, and upstairs to join the others, […]

Milo in his Paris Apartment

Milo the Cat in his Paris Apartment

June 12, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

I have shown this before, but not with the most important element – Milo the cat. It was during the night that I suddenly realised he should be there, since we’d been to feed him while his owner was away. Now this is one of those superb rooftop apartments which was once relegated to the housemaid, but which are now so sought after. Only certain cats and people can have this lifestyle. Firstly you have to remember where all the […]

Jardin & Cat

Chantal’s Jardin in Virieu

May 30, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

On this day we were invited to paint in the garden of Mme and M Pinaud. She speaks some English so was telling us she was disappointed that the blooms were not out. We’ve had snow here until quite recently she explained, so everything is still to flower. For us it was fine. The settings were so lovely with mature trees setting it off. I wanted an intimate  subject after all the architecture I seemed to be doing lately, so […]

Painting with Friends in Tuscano

February 28, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

In May this year is another ‘Painting Week’ in Barga, Tuscany. Introducing Niki and Glenys. We started painting together in 2002 in the Greek Islands. It was the first organised painting trip we’d done with a group and we’ve developed a bit of a passion for it . In 2008 we did the Italy trip through Tuscany and Umbria. We just have such a glorious time together and have the same mad humour and dedication to getting paint on paper […]
