Week 10. Water, Reflections, Houseboats and Plonk

July 5, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY, NEW SKETCHERS & GENERAL. 10AM. JULY 3 ’14 Well what a cracker of a day for our last days of Term 2. We are sketching at a narrow neck of beach and boating called The Spit.  Connecting two suburbs is a bridge which rises in the centre to allow passing boats to go from one side to the other. It’s always fascinating to watch unless you happen to be the one impatiently waiting in your car to get across. […]

Sketching Down Mexico Way

March 15, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY MARCH 13 2014. 10am Class. This week we’ve travelled from last week’s cool climate of Scandinavia to  the hot climate and colours of Mexico. We’ve sketched brightly coloured fruit and vegetable still life’s and enjoyed pouring colour one over the other and seeing the pigments work. Using the china graph to scribble in your whites is a great timesaver. You can freely add your colour and know that the white will be maintained as you sweep your colour in. […]

Hands, Feet, Surfers and Vistas

December 8, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY DECEMBER 05 ’13 Hello’ it’s Christy here. I thought even though Erin was in class today, I’d do today’s write up, as the rest of this week and next will be covered by us tutors, by either Vivianne or myself and with the lovely Judy in attendance as she continues to shadow the whole tutoring process. The class today was in full swing even before the official start of class, we always marvel at how enthusiastic our sketchers are […]

Melbourne Cup Day, Hats & High Heels

November 6, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s the day Australians dress up. I mean r-e-a-l-l-y dress up. Hats , high heels, designer frocks, Top hats and tails – and everything in between. This is Melbourne Cup. The first Tuesday in November. Big day in Oz. A public holiday in Melbourne CBD. Might as well be a national Holiday. Is anybody at work? Glenys my painting friend from NZ was to be in Sydney on this day and wanted to know what we’d be doing. MMMmm. Lets […]

Sketching at Sunset. Evening Classes.

August 21, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Once we have daylight saving, from early October, and we have those gorgeous long evenings –  then we begin our Sketching at SunsetEvening classes. Starting on Tuesday October 8, and Wednesday October 9, we are doing an easy 3 week course. So you have a class every week on the day you’ve picked. These are just right for busy people who can’t get to the day classes, but still want to be sketching when they can, and learn how it’s […]

Red Roofs, Books & Swedish Fika

June 29, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY JUNE 27 ’13 “Oh not building blocks” was one sketcher’s comment on arrival. Yes but don’t think of them that way. They are red roof tops as you look from above. I agree you need a big imagination for that, but we’re warming up for our street sketching. In fact once we talk about the eye level bit, and which way the blocks are going away from you, it begins to make some sense. Next was sketching on James […]

Potted Plants and a Garden Cafe

May 18, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY MAY 16 ’13 This week is about the garden. Our setups are cacti and succulents, and potted blooms, one in an old rusty hanging basket. I seem to wanting more sketches from everyone these days and people are stepping up to the mark. At least 2 in the first hour to be completed. Down the hill we go ( it’s always down to start with! ) and straight ahead till we reach Short St Plaza. Now you wouldn’t look […]

Seashells, Waves & Surfers

March 2, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It was all about the sea this week. We live next to it so we chose to sketch sea shells, surfers, beaches and boats. THURSDAY FEB 28 ’13 Sea shells are such glorious creations. When you study the fine details you can’t help but be amazed at their designs and shapes. We tried one sketch using just watercolour pencils, and a touch of waterbrush. Then for a second one, line and water-colour with a  bit of white chinagraph pencil scribbled […]

Sketch your Cake- and eat it too

February 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

This was our first 2013 Sketch your Cake High Tea. When someone says ‘I think I’ve died and gone to heaven’, you know everything is close to perfect. This is Gunner’s Barracks’ an old stone building, once the Officer’s Mess, and now so elegantly set up for dining. With views to Sydney harbour you can’t keep your eyes off, until your High Tea is served. For us it’s much more about the ‘look’ to begin with as all this needs to […]
