Coconuts with everything. Last day at Daku Resort.

October 4, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Friday Sept 20 Woke up at 5am today. I’m an early person. Birds are getting  out of their nests at the same time as me. And singing. With a nice cuppa tea I sit outside in the planters chair and watch Savusavu wake for almost the last time this week. Instead of yoga today its decided we need a class lesson in paint and colour. It’s easier to cover the core skills together like this than on location. We are […]

Copra Shed & Vivili Village Meke. Sketching at Daku Fiji.

October 3, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Thursday Sept 19 I love hearing the sound of rain on a tin roof. Except when you have out & about sketching plans. Not that rain lasts long here in Fiji, so we can still go with Plan A and we can still have a yoga session. Some want to go snorkeling and others will come up to the Haman property, to sketch the Copra processing shed. We all go up to the main house to greet our hosts Arthur […]

Pearl Farm and Ganesh Festival. Daku Resort Fiji

October 2, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Wednesday Sept 18. Can you believe it is slightly cloudy today. We skip yoga as we don’t like to be time pressured here, and need to be at JHunter Pearl depot very soon. There is a growing and successful young pearl business here in Fiji. The complete process is managed by professionally trained people and employs local as well. These are unique world wide because there are gorgeous luminous colours between the classic black and white pearls. The beds are […]

Raintrees Lovos and Birthdays. Another Day at Daku Resort Fiji.

October 2, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Tuesday September 17 Another glorious day. Breakfast is the best meal of the day as many of us agree. Have I said that before! Mereoni did a bowl of mashed egg for putting on our toast. Yum. Karen is our yoga leader today as was revealed at dinner last night – she’s  trained in body balancing which is a combo of yoga, and pilates. For us it is wonderful. At least she knows what she’s doing, and we all follow […]

Yoga, Markets, Shopping at Daku Resort Fiji

September 30, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday Sept 16 We are so lucky having this balmy warm weather, and very little rain. That seems to fall during the night if at all. Some sketchers are out walking at 6am and others are now keen to join in. We are also completing breakfast earlier which means we can start our yoga and be energized to begin our sketching day. Today Jan and Therese lead the session following Jo’s Travel Yoga sketches. All created just for us as […]

Let’s get Sketching. At home at Daku Resort

September 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sunday Sept 15 ’13 A cup of tea  on the balcony as the sun rises is a perfect start to the day. It’s not possible to be uptight in Fiji. You can try but it won’t happen. That’s a city thing. I’m not sure I’ll need my watch. Breakfast is a relaxed meeting time and everyone slowly appears. The choice of fresh fruit all grown locally looks beautiful and tastes even more so. Papaya grows all over Savusavu and we […]

The Sketchers arrive. First Afternoon at Daku

September 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Saturday Sept 14 You can hear the fan whirring at first light. You remember where you are. It’s Fiji. The group will arrive later today. Can’t wait. And it’s balmy and warm outside. The sun is streaming across our balcony and its time to rise and shine. My cuppa tea sitting out here never tasted so good. Breakfast seems like a good idea. I love papaya straight off the trees. Milton likes the jam made from apple jelly on his […]

The Adventure Begins. Fiji Here We Come

September 25, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Daku Resort Savusavu, Fiji. An incredible sketching Adventure. The first two days. Thursday Sept 12 ’13 A 6.30am flight. Of course that’s when it leaves,  so you can imagine what time we arose from our cosy beds to be there bright eyed and bushy tailed. Managed a sketch in pen and watercolour pencils. We are on our way to Fiji. Who knows what’s ahead. Once in Nadi, a short stopover, and time to sketch my samosa – before a short […]

The big Birthday, Sweet Sugar Lounge & Creating a Travel Sketching Journal with Alissa. Whew.

August 24, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY AUGUST 22 ’13 Oooh a chilly day. Blue skies for a while, but warm clothes the order of the day. But our subject for this week is very special and brings sunshiny smiles. One of our sketcher girls has turned 70. So to celebrate every class will be sketching birthday cakes and tarts. We won’t see Birthday Barb till tomorrow but at least everyone this week can share the fun in advance. Sketching only of course. No nibbling! Yet. […]
