Week 6 Term 1. Mixed media, lines & stories

March 10, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

WEEK 6. SATURDAY MARCH 10 ’18 Another week and even more progress.  Intro Sketchers faced up to Eye Level Perspective. Usually a big mystery along with big groans.  It can evoke some worry especially for those who’ve never had it properly explained. But with our step by step guides, people do begin to see how it works. It’s a great feeling. Another notch in your belt! I can do it. Travel Sketchers were using lines and marks in many different […]

Week 1 Term 1 ’18. Looking for Shape

February 3, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Our first week of term and back to sketching with a hiss and a roar. I’m sure everyone had a big lie down after their classes. Never has our right brain worked so hard, seeing past what we know and deconstructing our subjects into shapes. Intro classes studied how to make objects in nature into simple shapes. Then how to get that onto a page! Toss in some colour and……there it is. Laneways and alleyways was the subject for Travel […]

Daku Resort Savusavu, Fiji. ErinHill Travel Sketching Holiday. Saturday September 5th. A group of 10 excited people had gathered by Saturday afternoon, summed each other up and decided we were a pretty fun bunch. Sketch&French Wk 4. Asking the Way.

May 23, 2015 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday May 18 ’15 Sketching this week in our first part of the lesson was learning to see  vignettes. That means the details and not the full story. You’ll get enough from a doorway or iron gate as from the whole building. You won’t have time and you don’t need to. We have many iron gates and railings in our neighbourhood, so off we go to find one. By simply doing a couple of sections of it, and still using bright colour, […]

Travelling North

December 26, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

The flight landed in Wellington in New Zealand, and with a freshly picked up car, the three of us head to Palmerston North. The wedding day dawns. Brilliant blue skies and sunshine. Just what they’d hoped for. The wedding is at 10am in a park, in a spot specially picked out, and rows of chairs placed for the guests to be rested off their stilettos. The skies open. Down down down comes the rain. A sea of umbrellas. Soggy ground […]

Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden

December 16, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY DECEMBER 12 ’13 Hello’ it’s Christy here. Today we were off to sketch ‘Wendy Whiteley’s Garden’, also known as the ‘Secret Garden’.  And the secret is out. This garden, snugly situated in Lavender Bay is  well worth visiting and our group were in for a special day of sketching. There were 3 of us on the ferry from Manly to Luna Park today, where we’d be meeting up with everyone. The ferry ride to the city always feels special […]

Je Voudrais Une Epinard Fetta et jambon Galette, SVP.

November 12, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday November 11 ’13   What a rainy and windy day. The sort of day you’d usually decide to stay at home. But not for us.  it’s our last Sketch&French class this term, and we’re having it at 4 Frogs Creperie to celebrate. Run by four French hommes, who fell in love with Australia, and noticed a distinct lack of the mouth watering crepes and gallettes so much a part of real French cuisine. So they set up a Creperie […]

Bushfires and Memories

October 22, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Australia is a country of contrasts. We have deserts and mountains, rivers and beaches. We also have extreme climate. Floods, fire and pestilence are part of our lives here. The Blue Mountains are on fire. Right now. This minute. They say this has always been so, and that it’s a pattern which comes and goes. But its hard when we are in the middle of this. We feel so for the people and animals, the birds and flowers which may […]
