Sunday Workshop. Birds of Paradise and Trees

March 18, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sunday March 18 ’18 What a wonderful and enthusiastic group we had today, even though it hit 38 degrees in Sydney. Donna was my assistant today and immediately took over the coffee making department, and kept an eye on anyone needing a hand. People come from far and wide so sustenance is vital before starting. Before long we were seeing the strong clear shapes of the 3 Birds of Paradise in a watering can beginning to take shape. Certainty that […]

Week9 Term4. Nature’s Bounty

December 9, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Week 9 and what a gorgeous week for nature and colour. New Sketchers were looking at Intrinsic shape in fruit and veggies. General students were trying out the many ways of capturing the beauty of the bloom. Some gorgeous results. MANLY TUESDAY GENERAL DEC 5 ’17 We almost turned the studio into a florist today. Lots of gorgeous blooms to inspire but first a review of watercolor techniques, layering washes, wet on wet, and aquarelles for definition. So many creative […]

June 17, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Welcome to a wonderful new week of sketching again. Anna from the Blue Mountains branch reporting whilst Erin is in France, leading her joy filled Erin Hill Sketch Holidays. First class of the week was in the crisp Blue mountains. Tuesday New Sketchers class. This week was about seeing everyday objects with our new sketchers eyes. We headed to The Hydro Majestic in Medlow Bath for spectacular views and a spacious cafe. There’s a rattan bike hanging on the wall, […]

Week3 Term1. Gestural Lines. White Tops.

February 18, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

SKETCHING THIS WEEK. FEBRUARY 14 – 18 ’17 Every now and then I feel it’s good to express our EHS philosophy. We sketch entirely for ourselves and to totally immerse ourselves in the moment. We really don’t mind if others like what we do or not. Really isn’t important. We don’t even mind what’s going on ‘out there’ because we’re busy sketching. Our sketching time is us being in the ‘Now’ – our own ‘mindfulness’ – words mentioned a lot these […]

THURSDAY APRIL 10 ’14  – FINALE OF TERM 1, GROUPS 1-2 “Hello, its Christy here” and you’re joining us on our last class of term, our trip to Cockatoo Island! If you were like me, and had never had the pleasure of visiting this amazing little island nestled rather secretively in the city waterways before, you’d have been immensely excited and treating this like a little bit of an adventure or a holiday away! Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden

December 16, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY DECEMBER 12 ’13 Hello’ it’s Christy here. Today we were off to sketch ‘Wendy Whiteley’s Garden’, also known as the ‘Secret Garden’.  And the secret is out. This garden, snugly situated in Lavender Bay is  well worth visiting and our group were in for a special day of sketching. There were 3 of us on the ferry from Manly to Luna Park today, where we’d be meeting up with everyone. The ferry ride to the city always feels special […]

Sketch your Cake at Shangri-La

October 11, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s almost Sketch your Cake time once again. In fact this is the last one for 2013! Oh so soon. Anna from Bathers Pavilion had let me know she’s now the pastry chef at Shangri-La hotel. Atsuko and I decided to make an exploratory trip to the city, to check  it out. We were very impressed with the Lobby Lounge and its very inviting low tables and sofa chairs, which can be moved about a bit. Yes you can get […]
