Week9 Term4. Nature’s Bounty

December 9, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Week 9 and what a gorgeous week for nature and colour. New Sketchers were looking at Intrinsic shape in fruit and veggies. General students were trying out the many ways of capturing the beauty of the bloom. Some gorgeous results. MANLY TUESDAY GENERAL DEC 5 ’17 We almost turned the studio into a florist today. Lots of gorgeous blooms to inspire but first a review of watercolor techniques, layering washes, wet on wet, and aquarelles for definition. So many creative […]

Week3 Term1. Gestural Lines. White Tops.

February 18, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

SKETCHING THIS WEEK. FEBRUARY 14 – 18 ’17 Every now and then I feel it’s good to express our EHS philosophy. We sketch entirely for ourselves and to totally immerse ourselves in the moment. We really don’t mind if others like what we do or not. Really isn’t important. We don’t even mind what’s going on ‘out there’ because we’re busy sketching. Our sketching time is us being in the ‘Now’ – our own ‘mindfulness’ – words mentioned a lot these […]

SketchYourCake Class

January 26, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

SketchYourCake for a family group. January ’17 This is the newest version of our favourite SketchYourCake afternoon teas. Together with EHS, Anna our very own highly regarded chef and sketch tutor, is taking SketchYour Cake into her kitchen and taking people on a baking /sketching adventure. Guests begin with a welcome tea or coffee and a nibble of what’s to come while Anna prepares the kitchen for her first demo. Everyone takes part in stirring and mixing the cupcakes and getting them […]

General Intensive.Aug 21. Streets & People

August 25, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

General Intensive: ‘Street Scenes & People’ Manly pulled out all the stops and produced an absolute corker of a day for us to sketch happy crowds flowing out of the ferry terminal. Family groups walking along the esplanade, canoodling couples lying on the lawn, even a TV filming actors who were rather hopeless at kayaking-  we sketched them all! In the studio, we learnt a few tricks to ‘fudge’ a crowd and add the human element to sketches to help add atmosphere, […]

Sketching Boston, with a dash of NYC.

June 25, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’m surprised by how much water and shoreline I can see from the plane as we make our landing. Boston. What will I think. How will it be. Well, it’ll take a few days of images and impressions to float by me before I’ll begin to know. Spring has certainly sprung. I know it snowed recently so I’m surprised that it’s so hot and blue. Clear Cobalt. 27degrees. New green shoots on the sycamore trees are a smudge of Sap […]
