Week6 Term3.What Goes Up Must Come Down

August 27, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

EHS SYDNEY Week Six began promisingly as warm and sunny but the early Spring weather quickly reverted back to Winter and for most of our sketching groups, it became a battle to find a spot to sketch, out of the icy cold wind and rain. Our beginner sketchers stepped up to the challenge of perspective, locating eye levels and horizons and visualising vanishing points. For some, sketching perspective is easy, especially if you sat through technical drawing classes in […]

Cockatoo Island Sketching Adventure. Term 1 Finale.

April 12, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY APRIL 10 ’14  – FINALE OF TERM 1, GROUPS 1-2 “Hello, its Christy here” and you’re joining us on our last class of term, our trip to Cockatoo Island! If you were like me, and had never had the pleasure of visiting this amazing little island nestled rather secretively in the city waterways before, you’d have been immensely excited and treating this like a little bit of an adventure or a holiday away! Those of us who departed on the […]

International Sketchcrawl. Sat Jan 25 ’14

January 25, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

We are ahead of the world on the clock, so while most people are still in bed sleeping, we in Sydney are out there sketching our little hearts out. It’s International Sketchcrawl Day. We sketch wherever we are and they are posted by sketchers around the Globe. It was just Alissa, Chris, Lisa and I sketching underneath the massive iron structure which is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We met there in the morning and started our first sketch of the […]

Gravestones and Serenity

September 23, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19 ’13 Hello it’s Christy here. Erin is with the sketchers in Fiji till the end of this week, and in the interim, Vivianne and I, will tutor the remaining classes till the end of term. The decided destination is “North Head” for the end of term sketches this time, so we are the first class of the week joining me out there on a perfect day, to sketch at cemetery No 3, with its amazing view of […]

Seashells & Sunlotion, The Wharf in Chinagraph

August 10, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY AUG 8 ’13 Are those raindrops on the windows? Are those rainclouds on the horizon? Are those puddles I see on the pavement? Well guess what!  Rain never hurt anyone, least of all sketchers. Today’s warmup sketch was to be a Fijian moment, with Sunhat, sunscreen, Hibiscus and seashells, and what better day to do just that. Umbrellas were shaken and left damply in a corner, and smiles appeared at our sunny still lifes. People happily started, still remembering […]

Sketching Together

July 26, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

A couple of sketches done recently, with Jeanette from country Victoria and Vivianne, one of our effervescent tutors. One in line and watercolour, the other in line and watercolour pencil. Sketching together is so enjoyable. The coffee order placed, then the silence as we sketch away at whatever is around us. We were on the ferry to Sydney together, just Jeanette and I as part of her Sketch & Stay week. This was quite a highlight for her. To think […]

The 9.20am Thursday Manly ferry

The 9.20am Ferry to Sydney

July 7, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

These are the sketches I did each morning on the way to Sydney from the Manly ferry. The first two days we sat up the front, tucked behind the other passengers to keep warm. Blue skies and sunny, but wait till you get out to the heads. Freezing. The third morning we got smart, and headed to the sunny end looking back towards Manly. Slow learners methinks. Fun sketches though. No they are actually not the same passengers! ©ErinHill2013

Sydney Harbour in all it’s Glory

July 6, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY JULY 4 ’13 Now this day is one out of the box for our last week of Term 2.  We have the most sensational winter days here in Aus. Unless it’s raining. Clear blue skies, sun shining brightly, green leaves budding, water sparkling, coffee and cinnamon wafting from cafes. You do get the picture by now. Most of us headed off on the 9.20am ferry from Manly, some of the others caught the Mosman ferry. Everyone seemed to be […]
