Sydney 41º c

Sydney 41ºc

February 5, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

To be honest, the day I did the Hyde Park sketches it was only 35º. I thought that was pretty hot to be out sketching, but let me tell you, this is another level. The idea of being back in the Summer Kitchen in Trausse-Minervois has a certain appeal right now. But I have to settle for being inside where it’s a fraction cooler. Thank you to the inventor of aircon. However, being in the city is nothing compared to the […]

Sketching at Hyde Park – 2 more

February 1, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

This was a drawing I’d wanted to do ages ago. I like how you can look the whole way up to the best part at the top, and not have to draw anything messy below. Thank you trees and buildings. I think I missed a whole floor level by drawing so fast, so if you are up there and can’t see out – it’s me – forgot to draw your bit. Oh well, better luck next time. People were gathered […]

Fireworks for the kids and us

Fireworks for the Kids & Us

January 1, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

Oh what a night!  We didn’t see these last year being in the snow, but today energy and excitement are hanging in the air. Sydney has 2 Fireworks displays on NYE. The 9pm one is for kids and those of us over a certain age. If you are any age in between you find a spot where the bridge is in view and wait for the midnight show. Virginia & Winston share dinner on our balcony. Manly is where one […]

My Classic Balmoral Beach

August 6, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

I am really love having my Studio. Oops, will try that again. I love having my Studio. Just shows where my head is right now!!! This Balmoral Beach painting was wanted by late August, and it’s now done. The colours appear a bit sharper here than they really are.  It’s based on a larger one and when looking at a copy of the other, this one definitely has it’s own personality.  It doesn’t have it’s title yet – I’m letting […]

Paintings in Exhibition

January 16, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

I am really pleased with the 2 paintings in this ‘Sydney’ series. Well, there are many others, but these are a pair. The cards are great sellers. I will start getting bold and say  ‘Yes it is for sale’  In fact I will even talk money.  Au $550 each. There. I did it. That is about the mid price I’ll be selling at. This was painted recently from reference taken when Nicky and Adrian stayed at  Shang-ri-la hotel, the night […]

New Balmoral Original

November 7, 2009 by Erin Hill Sketching

I have been doing more new work, for my exhibition starting February, This will be a collection of originals from my travels as well as Beach vistas around Sydney. Balmoral is important to me because it’s where I began painting when I left Advertising and went to Art School. The exhibition will be at Bathers Pavilion right on Balmoral Beach, so of course the beach outside the window is a best seller. This angle tends to sum up the beach. […]
