Sunday Workshop. Sketching & Simple Colour

February 18, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sunday February 18 ’18 Another glorious Sydney day. How do we cope! coming along to one of very enjoyable ‘Taste of Sketching’ Workshops helps a lot. Once we get started with observing our subject, we’re quite unaware of what might be happening out there in the world!  We’re very busy observing only what’s in front of us. Sketching is one of these wonderful moments in time where you are completely immersed in playing with line and colour. Totally in the […]

Week 2. Term 1 – Shape, tone, texture

February 10, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Intro classes were discovering round shapes and our particular way of showing dimension – white top and sides, dark down the centre. Lemons and limes give a great chance to show how darks behind whites give you that depth in the fastest way. Travel Sketching classes were looking at techniques for brick, render and sandstone. We picked the 3 colours we’d use a base here and tried both watercolour and aquarelle to try different effects. Then either vignettes or entrances […]

Sunday Workshop. Sand Sea & Beach

January 29, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sunday January 28 ’18. A Taste of Sketching Workshop We had another rather hot and muggy Sydney day for our students to try their Travel Sketching wings. But it’s not long before everyone has met each other, had a drink and studied their sketch kit. We start with a bit of Erin’s philosophy about all this being for you and sketching what you observe in the time you have. We are trying to move away from the self judgement of […]

Holiday Sketching

December 29, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

There’s something nice about holidays and sketching. Yawn, Stretch, Sketch. Our Wednesdays at Bella Vista are very relaxed. Just turn up if you feel the mood coming on, and start with a great coffee or apple tart or mushrooms on toast, overlooking one of Sydney’s best Harbour views. The first Wednesday had a promised temperature of 35C, however outside under those massive Morton Bay figs, with a slight breeze, the temperature was 10C less. So lovely. This week people […]

October 28, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Hello everybody, we are in week 3 already. We have a had a week full of new skills being practiced, and for some classes, new tools being introduced. Term 3. Week 7. people, fashion and mannequins.

September 4, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a week of people sketching. New Sketchers learnt new skills sketching people for the first time, and the General classes took to the shopping districts to sketch mannequins, fashion and shop windows. Manly Tuesday General We discovered today that mannequins are a great way to practise people & fashion, AND mannequins don’t move away like real people do. Lots of colour and movement in your sketches, I think you even surprised yourselves, yes, you can sketch people and they […]

August 5, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Welcome to week 3 of sketching (for some its week 2). We are in the middle of winter, and for some in Manly, it’s been sunny. Sketching by the bay has been spectacular. Take a look and see…   Manly General Tuesday A great day to be enjoying views of Manly Cove filled with yachts just waiting to be sketched.
