Week4.Term1. First Watercolours & Co- Sketching

February 24, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Saturday February 24 ’18 Week 4 means first use of watercolours for our Introductory Sketchers. Having learned the colours and the layering system already, it now follows through with doing similar but with paint. Always an exciting day! You’re starting to feel like a ‘real’ artist now. For our more experienced sketchers we were looking at shape and form of people. But this would be very different. We’d be sketching who we saw, but sharing our sketchbooks around. When you […]

Week3.Term1. Lagoon Life and Beaches

February 17, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

Saturday February 17 ’18 Some fun sketches resulted from all the excellent locations you’ve traveled to for Week 3. From Narrabeen Lagoon to Centennial Park and Wentworth Falls Lake, we found tranquility among the thriving wildlife. Ducks and ducklings, geese, swans, pigeons, magpies, ibis, gulls, parrots and pelicans, All performed brilliantly. All of these were scattered across our pages using many differing techniques to get a variety of looks. Intro classes had a beach day, starting with a 3 colour […]

Sketching the ErinHill way

July 9, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

Thought you’d like a preview of some of the images in my next Bella Vista exhibition after next weekend. Saturday July 9 ’16. Term break We may be on term break but I see my passionate students are sketching just as much as ever, and posting and commenting on EHS Facebook. Thanks to those students who are behind this. You are saving the sanity of quite a few. But meanwhile your new tutor team are working on exciting plans for […]

The Boatshed Balmoral

August 1, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’ve seen the Boatshed morph from being – a boatshed, through several upgrades, but this one looks to be the most extensive. Now you can wander the full length of the outside walkway and find a table where they used to pull the dinghies out from storage. I liked the smaller table near the entrance where I could look out to sea, past the enclosed old swimming pool to the far shores – and sketch. I was waiting to meet […]

Exotic Bouquet

A Most Exotic Bouquet

May 17, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Venta has set a new standard in flower giving. We’ve been having trouble communicating lately – her computers and phones were off the air waves and I’d wondered if she had given us up. But no, everything is up and working again and as class was starting, in walks Venta with the most glorious bouquet of exotics most of us had not seen before! There were purple rose cabbages, gold and crimson orchids, and some protea leaves – about now […]

Cafe/Sketchup at Belgrave Cartel

January 11, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Still holidays but Monica was back in town, so couldn’t wait to organise a sketch and catchup. When I arrived at 10ish or so, I wandered out to the spacious back room, off the sun lit side passage, to see at least 3 of the girls totally absorbed in their sketching already. Belgrave Cartel is once again one of our fave meetup places to sketch. Since the renovations they’ve opened up a back room now connected by a sunny walkway […]

Midnight. NYE Sydney 2012

New Year’s Eve Sydney

January 2, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Not a black line in sight. Pure watercolour sketch. It’s too impossible for me to watch fireworks and sketch. I’m sure there’s a way, and if there is I’ll try to find it. So from my photo reference I present Sydney exploding at Midnight Dec 31 2012. It was a fantastic display – as it always is – and I hope I’ve captured here something of the essence of the night. ©ErinHill2013

Tues Aug 21. Building block houses

Sketch Class this Week: Tues 21. Thurs 23. Fri 24. August ’12

August 24, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

TUESDAY AUGUST 21. We had two houses made of blocks on the tables today. Both girls sat and sketched one, leaving the other for next time. I’m going skiing instead decided one!! We are now really looking at what goes away above and below your eye level. This is the key to it. Seeing the angles and getting it quickly down on paper. Down the hill we went and along to the meeting place outside the New Brighton Hotel where […]

Friday Fruit & Veg Still Life

Friday July 27. Arcade Sketching.

July 28, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a gorgeous day for 2 new people to discover the joys of Travel Sketching. Our regulars got to do the veggies with dutch carrots, while the other table was for the people beginning this wonderful journey. Mind you for one ‘veggie sketcher’ this was only her second class, so you can see how quickly she’s picked this up. We used watercolour pencil and waterpen for colouring. Then down the hill to Roycroft Arcade for our ‘Out & About’ part […]
