Sketching Week 4 Term 1.Books Angles and Lemons

February 20, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

Suddenly it’s week 4 and we’re certainly making excellent progress as we move through our 10 week program. For New Sketchers it’s the watercolour week. Much of the learning using w’colour pencils will now be continued as we learn the paint names and how they too work as layers. The chinagraph pencil is a mystery at first. Not knowing quite where you’ve scribbled is part of the fun. All will be revealed as you apply your first layer of yellow […]

Sketching Over Acrylic

February 3, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’m actually beginning to think about my exhibition at Bather’s Pavilion next year. No pressure at all. I’m even thinking about where my painting is going. Definitely down the sketching pathway methinks. Those above are ones where I’ve started with an acrylic base painting, and let loose with black pen. Some are the full size, and some tightly cropped sections of them. I think they’re coming on. ©ErinHillStudio2014

Waves over Rocks

Acrylic with a touch of line

July 11, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

I liked the way the sea is a deeper colour, and waves come crashing over the rock ledge and over into the shallower rock shelf. I do love these rock water combos, and because it’s where I walk every day, I like to observe the colours and try to use those in my paintings. This painting is done in acrylic but I’ve used a touch of black line as well. It’s based on an original sketch which I keep going […]

French Window, Line & Acrylic

October 9, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Something purely decorative. Just for the pure pleasure of putting bright colour and black line into a fun painting. I never tire of dreaming as I look beyond any French Window to any lovely vista before me. May we always have our dreams. Available now in my SHOP. ©ErinHill2012

Beach Sketch Painting

Acrylic & Line Beach Painting

September 29, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

This is another in my 12 inch square acrylic and line beach paintings. The series are all based on location sketches, and which looked as though they’d translate to a larger size than the original A5. I really like this one. The colours are right, the composition works and it has a very cheerful ambience to it. Available in SHOP. ©ErinHill2012

Blue Yonder

Acrylic Line & Wax Crayon on Canvas

September 27, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Something new. Just to show that when we are between Sketch Class terms, that things are buzzing in the Studio. I now feel that the new line sketch technique is working well and this one is very pleasing. I have a variety of pens I can use on larger works like this, and using white  water solouble crayon means I can pick up little areas of white. More coming soon. Oh this one in in the SHOP now. ©ErinHill2012

Manly to Shelley Beach

Small Canvas Acrylic & Line Paintings

September 25, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

New work. Small square canvases. Simple compositions. Clear colour. Must be Spring! These first 3 are all based on location sketches which I felt would work as fresh colour with line sketch detail paintings. Getting a good response from those who’ve seen them. The Studio is looking very cheerful. Available in SHOP. ©ErinHill2012

1 Almond, 2 Blueberry Friands

Sketch then Taste. Cake Sketching

July 30, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’m doing a bit more food & wine sketching these days. On this particular day I sat in the sun at a beachside cafe and ordered 2 friands. Love them. Nice size. Not too sweet. Oh and a fab coffee. I had planned to sketch them. I was taking my caffein hit as I observed these 2 little golden friands sitting on a plate enjoying the sun. First was the blueberry one, then the almond, but hang on – 2 […]

It’s Up and Hanging

March 2, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Well it’s done. The paintings are hung. The exhibition is ready. At The Bather’s Pavilion Balmoral Beach. So glad the Opening isn’t till Tuesday night. Time to tweek anything that needs it. I will even arrive refreshed and ready to rock n roll. It rained all day but the paintings were already in the storeroom. Somehow having the best coffee available downstairs means I’m very happy. I admit I had a moment as I carried the last of the paintings […]
