Getaway to the South Coast. March ’14

March 19, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Our Getaways are 3 day/2night Sketching Holidays. Usually just a few hours from Sydney. DAY 1. SUNDAY MARCH 16TH. We’ve been getting excited as the time drew near to go south of Sydney on our South Coast Getaway. We would all meet at 10am about 2 hrs drive South of Sydney at Berkeleow’s Bookbarn. It’s been there for years. An early Dutch family lived on a Southern Highlands farm and just happened to be passionate about collecting books. The barn […]

Melbourne Cup Day, Hats & High Heels

November 6, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s the day Australians dress up. I mean r-e-a-l-l-y dress up. Hats , high heels, designer frocks, Top hats and tails – and everything in between. This is Melbourne Cup. The first Tuesday in November. Big day in Oz. A public holiday in Melbourne CBD. Might as well be a national Holiday. Is anybody at work? Glenys my painting friend from NZ was to be in Sydney on this day and wanted to know what we’d be doing. MMMmm. Lets […]

Sydney Sketch Club at Bastille Day Markets

July 13, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Markets are busy and colourful places and very appealing to sketchers. But of course there is so much going on, you have to think about how your sketches will sum up the occasion. I liked the ‘Delicate Cakes’ marquee with it’s beautiful little cake art pieces and its croquembouche centrepiece. From where I was, slightly behind it and on the rise, I could observe well. This was our Sydney Sketch club Meetup and International Sketchcrawl. Jennifer placed herself in front […]

Sydney Harbour in all it’s Glory

July 6, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY JULY 4 ’13 Now this day is one out of the box for our last week of Term 2.  We have the most sensational winter days here in Aus. Unless it’s raining. Clear blue skies, sun shining brightly, green leaves budding, water sparkling, coffee and cinnamon wafting from cafes. You do get the picture by now. Most of us headed off on the 9.20am ferry from Manly, some of the others caught the Mosman ferry. Everyone seemed to be […]

Artifacts and Worker’s Cottages

June 1, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY MAY 30 ’13 Such a glorious day again. The sun actually pours into the Studio even more in Winter. Everyone feels happy. Between the two tables we have wooden artefacts from many countries waiting to be sketched. A Victorian fireplace piece, Hibicus box from Fiji, Kauri bowl from NZ, Batik printing block from Indonesia, St Joseph icon statue from Sth America, a Maori food bowl replica and an Indian stamp box. All tone texture and pattern. The challenge is looking […]

Happy Open Day in the Studio

January 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It was after all Australia Day! But many interested people happily left their sausage on the BBQ to come and see us and find out about sketching classes.   Joanna was keen to have helium balloons for our festive opening. So we had a couple of bright bouquets of them inside and out. I myself me – made apple and cinnamon muffins which people seemed happy to try! I assure you I am not known for these previously unheard of […]

Double page Sketch Spread in French Living Magazine

December 11, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

This is soooooooooo exciting. Claire Chaffey the editor of French Living magazine had asked me for a few of my French sketches – to scatter through the magazine. This is a BIG scatter – right across 2 pages. Cést Magnifique.  I’ve had wonderful response to these sketches, so I’ve looked at doing a print series. Prints now available.  Merci beaucoup. The Summer issue is out. It’s not snowing here in Australia, but might be in France – which is the […]

International Sketchcrawl Sydney

July 15, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

I don’t very often get pictures of myself sketching. It’s usually me on the end of the camera, so thank you Jennifer from Sydney Sketchclub. That’s Elaine from class there too. Jenny was somewhere nearby and Ethna wasn’t well so hope she sees this. It’s so lovely that some of our class feel they can now go sketching with the best. Alissa was there  – who came sketching toys with the class and shared her talents that day recently. I […]

Wedding Sketch

Wedding Sketch

February 22, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

This was my little sketch to go on the programme, so everyone attending the outdoor ceremony would know what was supposed to happen. As you can see our beautiful daughter Nicky and her husband Adrian look a whole lot better than the sketch. But I make no excuses – well not many! I hadn’t seen the dress although I did know what it would look like and the little fantasy head piece and teensy veil. And I knew the bouquets […]
