Glass, Stone, Ceramics and a Birthday

June 15, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY JUNE 13’13 Gorgeous day and none of the pouring rain Wednesday’s class got. We are doing old glass & stone jars and bottles, with a tiny lustrous Satsuma porcelain dish tossed in. All collected over the years and all with a story. The colours needed to be soft and translucent and pick up the touches of reflected colour nearby. The stone bottles are solid and glazed, so again needing lights and darks which make them round, without resorting to […]

A Very Stylish Affair

March 7, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Oh they put on a 5 Star Opening at The Bather’s Pavilion. Between 6.30 and 8.30 the invited guests cruised up the grand staircase to the exhibition upstairs. Da daaa. Those who’d been before knew that if they went up the far stairs, they’d get their first glass before coming round to be greeted. The staff had the wines chilled, glasses ready. A Clearview Sparkling Chardonnay, or Semillon, and for those who prefer a red, V3 2007 Cabernet/Shiraz.  These from […]

It’s Up and Hanging

March 2, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Well it’s done. The paintings are hung. The exhibition is ready. At The Bather’s Pavilion Balmoral Beach. So glad the Opening isn’t till Tuesday night. Time to tweek anything that needs it. I will even arrive refreshed and ready to rock n roll. It rained all day but the paintings were already in the storeroom. Somehow having the best coffee available downstairs means I’m very happy. I admit I had a moment as I carried the last of the paintings […]

Old Service Station

Once a Service Station

August 5, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s been a while since this quaint little building has seen new life. Sitting on a corner, surrounded by much larger, and very unstylish buildings, sits this decorative ‘home’ like place, which truly was a service station. When you look at it, it’s all there. Drive through for petrol, side doors for motor repairs, everything for a tiny but perfectly formed garage. It’s called ‘Auckland’ but I don’t know the history of that. Somehow having such a purpose-built architecturally designed, […]

The Invitation

Vicki Grace – Meditations – Exhibition

December 4, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

This lovely invitation shows details from Vicki Grace’s newest paintings. The show is being held in her own studio in Newtown, Sydney. It’s a large old converted warehouse, with huge wall space and perfect for the large works that Vicki produces. I loved that she is using quite strong colour combinations for this show, but counter balanced with more muted ones. As she says ‘ Yin & yang’. Vicki paints emotions. A keen yoga person, she regularly trots off to […]

Opening at Gallery8, Sydney

Women Artists Worth Seeing

September 8, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s funny how things work out. I’d seen Galleryeight on ‘Art Forum’ and liked the sound of the people, the venue, the Artists they are attracting, and decided it might be a Gallery I’d like to show in myself. There was an Opening happening on Tuesday night so Milton and I decided to attend. It’s in the historic part of Sydney town right next door to the oldest hotel which is a tourist attraction in itself. It’s not a big […]

Studio coming along, but will it work to share?

August 4, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

The track system is now up so have stacked the walls with everything formerly on the floor. Managed to get that olive/grey wall done so that the white track would sit nicely at the top, and I wouldn’t have to paint around it. The whole studio looks so fresh and bright. People are stopping to come and see what I’m doing now. The front window shows from the street as cars go by, so it’s obvious that it’s an art […]

Amelie Guards the Studio

July 26, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

Things are making progress. Yesterday I painted the grey wall white – 1st coat. The picture hanging system is coming on Tuesday, so getting the walls ready was a good thing to do on a Sunday.  The bench top is being made so should be here soon. Cardboard cartons are my saviour. Today was sunny and cheerful so everything looked welcoming for our good friends Dale and Gilly and Yvonne. They seemed suitably impressed and even spent $ on cards […]

My New Studio

July 11, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

Things have been happening. Since returning from France and Italy I have realised that I want a place to paint in, spread out, walk away. leave paints where they are, paint early, paint late…… etc. I’ve always had space for all this in the houses we’ve lived in. But then we downsized to our gorgeous townhouse by the harbour. That has been fine for smaller works but now I want to go bigger and messier and explore other mediums and […]
