You Are Invited…

November 22, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Yes, our 2017 Student Exhibition is on again. If you are interested in learning to sketch, you’ll be inspired. Most of our students came to us without any previous art ability – or so they believed. Look what they’ve achieved!! Who’d have thought. Students come to classes not only for the joy of creating a quick impression, but for the group they bond with every week, and for the fun we have together discovering the world around us. Hope to […]

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Sketching & Giving.

May 31, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY 10AM & 11.30AM CLASSES. MAY 29TH 2014. This week we were sketching to raise funds for Cancer Council’s ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’ I’d received the promotional material in the mail before leaving for overseas, and had put it  into our term schedule, so that I could be part of it on my return. Everyone would place a donation in the box provided and we’d be doing something for research as well as enjoying some sketching together.   We’d thought […]

Discovering Manly Cafes

March 3, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

My perfect life would be to live in new and favourite cafes, moving from one to the next. Actually that almost happened this morning. Adeline and I met up to plan our next Sketch&French classes. That was Belgrave Cartel which I love. Next Alissa was arriving on the ferry and we would be looking for a new one I’d been told about. Great timing. I dash to the wharf and there’s Alissa coming through the forecourt. We walk all the […]

Our Delicious Chinese NY High Tea.

January 28, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Who would have thought. A very English tradition, with a very Chinese influence. That is multi-culturism for you. We have just celebrated Australia Day, so we’ve had a 3 day weekend to enjoy, to share with friends and be grateful that we are lucky enough to live here. We celebrate our multi-cultural society, and the contribution we all make to enrich the lives of all Australians. So how very timely that Anna the Executive Pastry Chef at Shangri-la Hotel Sydney, […]

Chinese New Year High Tea, Shangri-la Hotel Sydney

January 24, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

This is an incredibly different style of High Tea for the Shangri-la Hotel. Anna the Executive Pastry chef has just invited us to their first Chinese New Year High Tea.  I know we said we wouldn’t do our next one till February, but we’ve just had our sketching arm twisted! We’re booking a table for Tuesday January 28th from 3pm – 5pm. Let me know if you’re keen to come along and sketch this quite different and exquisite High Tea. […]

Sketching Christmas Party

November 26, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday November 25th 2013. It’s not actually the end of the year. In fact it’s only just past the 11th moon. But we in the Sketching Studio like to be ahead of the pack. So our Christmas end of the year celebration would be earlier than most. At least everybody would remember it. We don’t like to be one of several parties in town on the same night. Far out brussell sprout! Not for us. Not at all too early […]

Shangri-La Sketch your Cake

October 29, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s amazing with today’s weather that we all turn up in one piece! Gale force winds and thunder at the very moment each of us is attempting to get to our bi-monthly Sketch your Cake event. But sketchers are very hardy folk. Here we are at the glorious Hotel Shangri-La, smiling and full of anticipation for what is ahead. Kevin our table attendant is there in a blink to take our tea and coffee orders. My car is being […]

Round & Oblong shapes, Big Gates & Pizza

September 7, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY SEPT 5 ’13 What a glorious day for me to return to the Studio. Today I felt a little perspective should be back on board after all the cake- ish things we’ve sketched recently. Round and box shapes. Watch the way boxes become narrower as they go away. Notice that round things have no pointed corners! Everybody did well, and although a couple of brain freezes occurred, but were back on track seeing well again in a second. Through […]
