Je Prendrai un Verre de Vin Rouge s.v.p.

August 12, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Week 3 of our 5 week Sketch & French course. Vivianne and I were both tutoring today as we wanted to give people who are still quite new to sketching, as much guidance as possible. Our still life was a South Pacific beach theme, similar to last week’s Travel Sketch class setups. They’re up for this now. We also knew that we’d be expecting two sketches within the hour today, both completed with colour. If anyone arrived late, they simply […]

Je suis astronaute, et vous?

August 5, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Monday August 5 ’13 Our Sketch&French travel sketching is stepping up the pace a little this week. Some interesting angles to observe, and not many had ever learned this. Perspective in other words. If it’s closer to you it’s bigger. As it goes away it’s going to get smaller. Christy was also on hand today, so we could both give some guidance to some who may have struggled so soon on their sketching adventure. As you’ll see in the sketches, […]

Cafe au lait sketching

Les Quatre Grenouilles

May 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

To celebrate the fifth class in our series of 5 Sketch&French classes, we decided to do the whole lesson at The Four Frogs Creperie. The Creperie concept hasn’t been well known on this side of the planet, though it’s traditional in France. So when we discovered this new one recently, we fell upon it and have been hard pressed to stay away. So today was a perfect fit for us. We’d start with sketching of course, so naturally the four […]

Freshly made Madeleines Sketched

Les Madeleines d’ Adeline

May 20, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Two sketches today. A few groans but I timed the first one, the French plant holder with geraniums – and everyone was done and dusted in 31 mins! Perfect timing for Adeline to arrive and pop the Madeleines onto a small plate for the 2nd sketch. Again all done and coloured in the time left and all very yummy looking. So of course this stands you in good stead when you are travelling because you CAN sketch quickly. Today Adeline […]

Gâteau à goûter et géraniums à dessiner

May 13, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Things were going a bit pear-shaped today.  Some days are like that! I’d raced to the Studio to set up the tables with a gorgeous potted geranium and another long stemmed one in a glass. Then we started straight into sketching – how high, how wide – my mantra. But this time we’d be pushing things along and doing two sketches within the hour. Oops, realised I hadn’t made the Mariage tea we always start with! Anyway, […]

Gardénia blanc et Camelia rose avec du pain de banane

April 29, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

We had our first Sketch&French class for Term 2 today. What a glorious few weeks of perfect weather we are having. Perfect too for starting another S&F class with a few newcomers to welcome. To make it not too frightening for those who are new to sketching, I always find simple flowers are a lovely way to begin. Your lines will always look like the flower in front of you if you take a moment to really look at it’s shape. […]

New Sketch&French Starts Soon

March 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

We have just completed our Term 1 Five week course, and our next one starts on Monday April 29. One of the class members said she loved coming and it was so nice doing something for herself, not the business. Come join the fun. Our class on March19, was essentially on shopping in Paris. We always start with a freshly made tea or coffee just to get in the mood, as we begin our sketches. We had a fabulous silver, […]

Est-ce-que je peux gouter le fromage svp

February 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

We are learning to say this quite often now. Can I try the chocolate, the cheese, the waffles, s’il vous plaît ?This was our ‘cheese’ and ‘at the restaurant’ day at Sketch&French. It was also the day Amy, a writer with WeekendNotes had accepted our invitation to find out about our classes, and would be visiting. See her published article here. We set up a selection of cheeses, hand made by Sue Meagher, one of our class mates. Sue runs cheesemaking workshops […]
