Fresh Lemons & Vine Tomatoes

May 4, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY MAY 2 A lovely bright day for Out & About Sketching. This is Term 2.  Already! Everybody was excited to be back sketching again, and catching up on what the others had been doing. We welcomed 2 new sketchers to our Thursday class, and one intrepid traveller returning with a sketchbook bursting with sketches of India. Some have swapped classes. Others are away travelling. But a very happy group we are. Before long all fears of starting first sketches […]

Apples Leaves & Trees

March 9, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

I’ve done some demo sketch treatments of leaves and trees on the whiteboard, so you’ll see that way below, for your interest. THURSDAY MARCH 7 ’13 A bright sunny day this Thursday. Already our 6th week of this term. We simply had to have apples as a sketch still life today – all the way from the Blue Mts, and the same apples sketched over 3 days. We’re doing trees in the park, so it seems a good idea to […]

Est-ce-que je peux gouter le fromage svp

February 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

We are learning to say this quite often now. Can I try the chocolate, the cheese, the waffles, s’il vous plaît ?This was our ‘cheese’ and ‘at the restaurant’ day at Sketch&French. It was also the day Amy, a writer with WeekendNotes had accepted our invitation to find out about our classes, and would be visiting. See her published article here. We set up a selection of cheeses, hand made by Sue Meagher, one of our class mates. Sue runs cheesemaking workshops […]

Friday Fruit & Veg Still Life

Friday July 27. Arcade Sketching.

July 28, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a gorgeous day for 2 new people to discover the joys of Travel Sketching. Our regulars got to do the veggies with dutch carrots, while the other table was for the people beginning this wonderful journey. Mind you for one ‘veggie sketcher’ this was only her second class, so you can see how quickly she’s picked this up. We used watercolour pencil and waterpen for colouring. Then down the hill to Roycroft Arcade for our ‘Out & About’ part […]

Sketching in the Arcade

Thursday July 26th. Arcade Sketching Fruit & Veggies

July 26, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Thursday’s Class was being challenged today. A fruit and veggie still life, both to be sketched and colour applied in one hour. If you are travelling, (and 2 of the girls are about to), you’d be lucky to even get that long. So this was us, imagining we were in Rome or Athens or Tibet, just sketching something quickly which sums up the feel of where we are. We are off to a local arcade, where we were planning a sketch of a […]

Veggie Still life

Sketch Class Tuesday July 24. Fruit & Veg still life on a soggy day

July 24, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

It was indeed a soggy ol’ day this Tuesday July 24. Not that we could give a raspberry, or a grape or a fig for that matter. Inside the Studio is bright and even feels sunny, so we all were happy to knuckle down to the first sketches for this new class. We were also pleased to welcome Jennifer from Sydney Sketchclub, who happened to have a day available to come and be with our class. She managed beautifully without […]

Yummy Thai for Mumma’s Day

May 13, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

These days it’s a ‘No Kids, no Mothers’ Mother’s Day. It happens. They leave home or leave the planet. So for Virginia and I it was ‘ME’ Day. The boys were happy to help with that as we were late lunching at Green Pearl, a waterfront Thai at Bayswater. We hadn’t been before but we knew where it was supposed to be. You know, GPS , iphones and things. Could not see where it could be, so asked another cafe […]

Cafe at Kurrajong Village

Sassafras Creek at Kurrajong

February 9, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

Virginia and I took the one and half hour trip for me to see my client there about an upcoming exhibition. The plan was to do some local sketches and work out painting subjects. Kurrajong Village is at the base of one of two roads through the Blue Mountains. An idyllic little place, with a proud history and many of the residents are related to the founders of the area. This side of the mountains is popular for it’s apple […]

Lunch with Margaret Olley

Lunch with Margaret Olley

January 7, 2011 by Erin Hill Sketching

I was about to sit down with my lunch and look at my new book. I liked the little still-life that was suddenly in front of me and grabbed my drawing pen and sketchbook. Nothing like knowing you can’t eat till you finish to speed things along. I even had to put the colour on, before I forgot how it looked. This was my plate of apple quarters and 3 crackers spread with Mersey Valley Vintage cheddar and a ‘flat’ […]
