Week 10. Water, Reflections, Houseboats and Plonk

July 5, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY, NEW SKETCHERS & GENERAL. 10AM. JULY 3 ’14 Well what a cracker of a day for our last days of Term 2. We are sketching at a narrow neck of beach and boating called The Spit.  Connecting two suburbs is a bridge which rises in the centre to allow passing boats to go from one side to the other. It’s always fascinating to watch unless you happen to be the one impatiently waiting in your car to get across. […]

Lunch at Ciao Belli Cafe

The Seagull and Me

May 7, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

A very nice day again. Decided to pop in to Ciao Belli Cafe, sit quietly in the sun, and sketch. Flavia brought me a delicious Greek Salad and I settled into the seat with a seaside view. St Patrick’s sits high on the hill above the wharf. The Norfolk pines framed the setting. Looked like a sketch to me. Not a soul around so it seemed more like my own place, unlike weekends when we share Manly with all the […]

Quarantine Station. Vistas & Vignettes

April 13, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY APRIL 11 What a stunning day. One out of the box. A perfect day for an adventure. At 10am everyone managed to be at the Info Centre ready for our trip down the bumpy ol’ road to the Quarantine Station on the foreshore of the harbour. For 140 years new arrivals were brought here if anyone on the ship was suspected of having a contagious disease. Smallpox in the 1800s, Bubonic plague in the 1900’s, Spanish influenza 1918 -19, […]

Under the Market Umbrella

At last a Summer’s Day

December 29, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Now THIS is what we like. Summer = blue skies, Sun not too hot, Sparkling water, slight breeze. Umbrella up. Same for everybody really. Now that the hurley burley is over we can flop on the sofas, stick our feet out and let go. This is the life. Worked all year for this. We have our swims, eat more ham or turkey – in sandwiches or salads – not tiring of it yet! Friends come and go and we just love […]

Christmas Cakes & Cards

December 15, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

So it’s our last week of classes. Hard to believe. We have such an absolutely glorious time together and everybody has bonded through our love of sketching. I wish to thank everybody for the compliments and comments I have received from you, about how it makes a difference in your lives. Believe me, it’s you who have changed my life. I can’t wait for 2013. Here is what we did this week. We kept it pretty relaxed for the last […]

Thurs Nov 22. Perfume & Wooden hands

Perfume,Hands,Streets & Boats

November 24, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Our Sketching Week. Nov 22,23,24.  An excellent week for our sketchers. Take a look. THURSDAY NOV 22 ’12 I love the new wooden hands they had in my Art store. One is slightly larger than the other so having two together is a great sketch for people. The two hands are not forgiving if you don’t observe well before starting your sketch. And seeing I sketched my new perfume yesterday, that was the inspiration for the other choice today. Both […]

Blue Yonder

Acrylic Line & Wax Crayon on Canvas

September 27, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Something new. Just to show that when we are between Sketch Class terms, that things are buzzing in the Studio. I now feel that the new line sketch technique is working well and this one is very pleasing. I have a variety of pens I can use on larger works like this, and using white  water solouble crayon means I can pick up little areas of white. More coming soon. Oh this one in in the SHOP now. ©ErinHill2012

Skies I adore

May 20, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

I seem to be an early riser. And I do get to see some breathtaking skies. All these are taken in those few seconds before the hues change so dramatically, to equally beautiful new ones. These are just a few I came across in my collection. The last one is a sunset. In the amazing little Greek Island of Kastellorizo, a very long way from Athens, but a place I must return to and paint again. ©ErinHill2012
