Sketch&Wine. Easter Flowers & Choc

April 13, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&Wine. Wednesday April 12 ’17. Mixed Media Sketching using twigs, bamboo pens, Ink, watercolour, Oil crayon, White gel pens, Spray glitter, Glitter nail varnish – on textured or coloured papers. On a rainy night what better to come inside our warm and inviting Studio and play with creative sketches and ideas. Mix with friends, drink some wine and laugh yourself silly. We had the pleasure of a 14 yr granddaughter who thoroughly enjoyed having a go at all the inks, […]

Week7 Term1. People Shapes & Glass

March 18, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

MANLY CLASSES Week 7 and another big week. Big rain. Big sketching challenges. Big progress New Sketchers have just discovered that ‘People sketching’ is not as terrifying as they’d thought. Everything, even human formS are shapes. It’s just a matter of seeing them. And ‘see’ they did. We keep our exercises very quick. Get your book, eye and pen ready and go go go. Some classes tried ‘contour sketching’ – sketching your person without looking at the page. We loved […]

Week6 Term1. Looking for eye level

March 11, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

SYDNEY CLASSES WEEK 6 TERM 1 ’17 Week 6 Term 1. March 11’17 We were again planning well ahead for our locations this week, in case of rain. Actually we had less than last week but our venues were spot on. New Sketchers all managed to sketch eye level perspective on location without too many rain drops. Our students whether in Manly, Mona Vale, Blue Mts and The Rocks all found brick buildings with a good corner where they could see […]

Adventure Class. The ‘Paper Bag’ building

March 11, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Adventure Thursday. March 9 ’17 We met at the Devonshire Tunnel at Central Station and walked the pedestrian friendly Goods Line to UTS Business School. What an amazing building. We were incredulous that such a building ever made it off the paper it was drawn on! The discussions between architect Gehry and the vast number of artisans and builders involved in the project must have been epic. It boggles the mind how every twist and turn and crumple and fold […]

Week5.Term1. Wheels & Shiny Things

March 4, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Week 5. Term 1. This was a week where unrelenting rain was promised every day- and it delivered. Admittedly there were breaks in the clouds and sunny periods did allow for quick sketching if we were lucky. But Toni and Kathy had very cleverly planned an indoor week for General Sketchers at the impressive Harley Davidson showroom. And it’s been a huge success. Our theme of thumbnails, light and heavy line work certainly translated well to motorcycles and all the […]

Adventure Class.The Secret Garden

February 24, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Thursday 23rd February Adventure Sketch to Lavender Bay. We met in the shade under the iconic Luna Park Face and immediately began sketching those massive eyebrows, teeth and lips. The more you study it, the creepier that face gets, more Batman Joker than Happy Go Lucky Clown we decided. Still fun to sketch. Only Robyn bucked the trend and faced the other direction, sketching the bridge, harbour and Opera House instead. At one stage I looked up and there was […]

Week2 Term1. What is colour made of?

February 11, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Week 2 Term 1. February 11 ’17 Colour is made of millions of other colours. One can get very technical about light and pigments and things, but our job is to simplify your colour world. We play with layers of just a few and create a rich and lively effect over your sketch. All our classes wherever they are, are adapting the subject of the week to their location. Anna’s Blue Mountains class move from one village to another, just […]

Chocolate Truffle Workshop

February 10, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&Bake. Truffle Sketching Workshop Day. Monday February 6 ’17 We’ve been planning these day classes with Anna, our chef, baker and Sketch tutor for a while. Every two months we’ll do a different food and sketch experience for you. This Workshop was very much looked forward to by our foodie Sketchers. A big day. An early start. Sharpening our experience as public transport commuters. Beginning the day some sketched from the moment the journey began. The bus to town. […]

Summer Sketching. Wax Crayons Paint & Pens

January 20, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Summer Sketching. Tues Jan 17 & Thursday Jan 19 ’17 This week was about tracing your lines and hardly leaving the page with your pen. Let it meander around the shapes you are seeing. Also a nice opportunity to try some interesting mediums. Kathy had water soluble wax crayons to play with. Add a little water, scape a little back. Pop some gel pen in there. Oh and what about some coloured gel pens. Add some scones and jam? It […]
