Sketching Ourselves and other Characters

August 30, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

New Sketchers. 12noon Monday August 25 ’14 This is a series of 3 classes for some keen sketchers who we couldn’t squeeze into our weekly classes – so it’s a bit of a ‘special’ really. For our two brand new sketchers it was a little nerve -wracking, as you begin to wonder as you step into the Studio if this was all just a bad idea. Me sketch! What! Never have been before so why do I think I can […]

Sketching Teapots & Windmills

August 23, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Just a few observations I’d like to talk about as we complete week 6. With every group each term, this is about the time some may begin to worry that you are not progressing.   Not everybody, but some.   Somehow it seems harder.  But you are not alone. This is how many feel and worry they are the only one. We do plateau at a point where we think it should be easier.  We are asking more of ourselves, so we […]

Saturday Sketch Workshop with Judy. July 26th

July 28, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

‘LETTING GO WITH YOUR SKETCHING & WATERCOLOUR’ Workshop with Judy. I had been very busy planning our first workshop this term and had plenty in store for those unsuspecting sketchers. We all met in Nominom, a shocking pink building on the beachfront, easy to spot from a mile away.  The owner was most obliging as he had put together some tables for us upstairs and it was a truly colourful place to be, like having our own psychedelic studio by […]

Week 10. Water, Reflections, Houseboats and Plonk

July 5, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY, NEW SKETCHERS & GENERAL. 10AM. JULY 3 ’14 Well what a cracker of a day for our last days of Term 2. We are sketching at a narrow neck of beach and boating called The Spit.  Connecting two suburbs is a bridge which rises in the centre to allow passing boats to go from one side to the other. It’s always fascinating to watch unless you happen to be the one impatiently waiting in your car to get across. […]

Advanced Sketching. Coloured Fibre Pens & Watercolour.

June 21, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

FRIDAY 11.30AM. ADVANCED SKETCHING. JUNE 20 ’14. This week we are trying waterproof coloured fibre pens. Because we quite liked the setups already in place, our sketchers were happy to get stuck in and use those as the basis for their coloured pen work. You could do the whole sketch in one colour, or change to another crazy colour at any moment. Even half way through an object if you felt like it. Why not. And don’t forget to breathe! […]

Sketching His and Hers Travel Toiletries

June 21, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY 10AM GENERAL SKETCHING. JUNE 19 ’14. Oh look at those blue skies.  It’s chilly first and last thing, but you know you’ll be pealing off the layers in the middle of the day. So – wear layers. This week we are going into the bathroom and seeing what toiletries you travel with. On one table HIS choice.  The other table HER choice. We have an interesting sketch to do in 30 mins and get colour on. Lots of shapes […]

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Sketching & Giving.

May 31, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY 10AM & 11.30AM CLASSES. MAY 29TH 2014. This week we were sketching to raise funds for Cancer Council’s ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’ I’d received the promotional material in the mail before leaving for overseas, and had put it  into our term schedule, so that I could be part of it on my return. Everyone would place a donation in the box provided and we’d be doing something for research as well as enjoying some sketching together.   We’d thought […]

SketchYourCake Japanese High Tea

May 28, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Azuma Japanese High Tea. Tuesday May 27th. We’d planned this months ago but only this week did we manage a suitable afternoon to go. The easiest way to get there was by ferry and a short walk up Philip St bringing you to the corner of Chifley Plaza. In through the very grand entrance, past enormous contemporary paintings we went. Up the escalator and round to the far end and we arrive at the very elegant Azuma Japanese Restaurant. One […]

Sketching Vietnamese Street Food

May 24, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY 10AM CLASS. MAY 22 2014. Well we decided to go a bit tropical this week (dreaming of holidays in South-East Asia) so I delved into the kitchen cupboards and Voila! A veritable assortment of fruit and veg and spices ready to make a stir fry – yum! Before the class I went to my lemongrass bush and picked a few stalks and they are so fragrant it’s just delicious, they filled my car with their aroma ( better than […]
