Welcome to our Studio

Open Night for Friends and Neighbours

December 9, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

It was a jolly occasion. 6.30 – 8.30 sharp. Pop in, have some crisp Rosé or Pinot Gris from Kira’s family vineyard. Anything you purchase tonight is 10% off. And they did. This was the 3 of us in the Studio saying to the World ‘hello we are here’. Red Olive 2 doors up did the same, which meant we could both take your money – (and give you great value.)  We had such a good time, and […]

On the Seine, Paris

On the Seine, Paris

November 2, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

I wanted to see how well my travel sketches convert to a painting. So I took the ‘Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Seine’ drawing and began an acrylic. This is on gessoed 300gsm paper. I still have a few of these to use, and as I didn’t know what I was doing, seemed safer to go this way. Began with a charcoal indication of where the main areas should be.Decided then to base the colours pretty much […]

Milo the Cat at Monet's Garden

Milo the Cat at Monet’s Garden

June 25, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

Milo likes to get about. I realised he must have followed us onto the train to Vernon, then got himself to Monet’s Garden on the bus that takes you to the village. He must have loved the peace and quiet of no other visitors, when we painters were there by special arrangement. We had just one hour so I wouldn’t have noticed a thing except my pad and pen working at lightening speed. The feeling was pure joy to be […]

Notre Dame and Seine. Paris

Notre Dame and the Seine.

May 15, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

Isn’t this a great view. We were hanging about here waiting to meet up with Niki from Austin Texas, so did this little thing to fill in time – as if that’s hard in Paris. I like how you get that distant view of  the Eiffel Tower as well. It’s so busy around here and we’d just seen a wedding party trooping along Pont Sully, and the New York Jazz band was playing nearby. Never a dull moment. Italy next. […]

Amelie's Cafe. Les Deux Moulins

Amelie’s cafe. Les Deux Moulins

May 15, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

Just a couple more of Paris which i loved the locations of. This is such a popular cafe in Montmartre so when we decided it was macaron time we were pretty happy to get a seat from where I could draw. Will quickly post the 2nd one and I promise I’ll be doing Italy, which is fantastic I can tell you. More rain but still painting. ©ErinHill2010

Tour Eiffel

Tour Eiffel

May 10, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

What a fabulous structure this is. It looks like lace but is a solid grey enormous metal construction. We like this end of the park because it is only locals who are there. People with dogs, business people taking a shortcut, and little ol’ ladies with their shopping caddies, and lots of trees. Decided to whizz the 2 outside lines down, then take it from there. Actually I have unwittingly condensed the lower part to fit the page, – as […]

Paris Watercolours for Exhibition

January 25, 2010 by Erin Hill Sketching

I will be exhibiting a series of  small watercolours all painted while I spent a few weeks in Paris last year, woops the year before. Because I had a little longer there than most of my visits, I tried to learn my way about a little more. So out I went each morning with a plan in mind of where I would go. Then try hard not to get lost. Of course I did every so often, but I didn’t […]
