Sketch&Lunch-Vietnamese

February 17, 2018 by Erin Hill Sketching

The first Sketch&Lunch of the year was held in Sydney’s Cabramatta. I absolutely love Cabramatta  and Vietnamese food, so this Sketch&Lunch day is one of my favourites. First we started with a Vietnamese coffee at the best Vietnamese cafe in town. Cafe Xua. The coffees taste pretty much just like a ca phe sua da you would buy in Vietnam. Ivy, the owner is a delight too. We learnt about Vietnamese herbs and sketched them in our food journals labelling […]

Sketch&Lunch-A Taste of India

July 13, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

On the last Monday of the month Erin Hill Sketching holds a Sketch&lunch day trip. June’s trip was “A taste of India”. We limit group size to 8, and that way we can access smaller out of the way and off the tourist beat, cultural delights. We met at the train station. Thats easy. Harris Park first, then later we headed to Wentworthville. For many of us, this in itself was an adventure! Then we proceeded to the most unlikely […]

Sketch&Wine. Fast & Loose Faces

March 11, 2017 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&Wine. Wednesday March 8 ’17 Our sketch and wine on Wednesday night began with all of us attempting portraits of each other using sticks and coloured ink. We went over the basic measurements for sketching the human face in profile and front on. Why? Because once we know the basics we are better able to judge how our subject’s features should be sketched. Is the face longer, thinner than normal? Is the mouth wider? The chin pointier? Hopefully, the exercises in […]

Sketching Week 4 Term 1.Books Angles and Lemons

February 20, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

Suddenly it’s week 4 and we’re certainly making excellent progress as we move through our 10 week program. For New Sketchers it’s the watercolour week. Much of the learning using w’colour pencils will now be continued as we learn the paint names and how they too work as layers. The chinagraph pencil is a mystery at first. Not knowing quite where you’ve scribbled is part of the fun. All will be revealed as you apply your first layer of yellow […]

Sketching Workshop Taupo New Zealand

December 14, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 11 ’13 Taupo is an enormous and very deep lake, in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand. Surrounded by little settlements and a main town centre, one of the big attractions is the mountains for skiing and trout fishing. When you arrive from the south, it tempts and taunts you as the road dips down to the cold blue water lapping on pumice shores, then takes you back through the forest before leading you back […]

Hands, Feet, Surfers and Vistas

December 8, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY DECEMBER 05 ’13 Hello’ it’s Christy here. I thought even though Erin was in class today, I’d do today’s write up, as the rest of this week and next will be covered by us tutors, by either Vivianne or myself and with the lovely Judy in attendance as she continues to shadow the whole tutoring process. The class today was in full swing even before the official start of class, we always marvel at how enthusiastic our sketchers are […]

Sketch Your Own Greeting Cards

November 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 28 ’13 An exciting time of year for us. Making our own sketch Christmas/ Birthday/ Thank you/ Goodbye Greeting Cards. Somehow when you hear Carols coming out of the ceiling in lifts – you know it’s that time of year. We have some very high quality blank cards, which you do any sketch you like, straight on to the tiny space the window allows. We have a big collection of decorations to pick from, and you do as […]

Sunset Christmas Card Sketching

November 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 27 ’13 It was almost as though our end of term had come a week early during our sunset sketching this time! There was a celebratory feel in the air tonight with Erin leaving us some lovely wine and nibbles, seeing as we were not going out to a restaurant as usual. Knowing we would be well watered and fed, we settled in and spent the evening in the studio. Large glasses of white wine were poured, upbeat […]

Sunset Sketching. China, Mannequins and The Artichoke

November 22, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

After a 3 week break we had an excited group of sketchers along to tonight’s Sunset sketching class. With two tables set up in the studio, students could choose mannequins or a quaint still life of china. It’s a good time to remind ourselves that we can just have fun with this, it’s only a sketch, an experience, capturing an impression, a moment in time…just enjoy the process…and then turn the page… Mannequins were measured out and coloured and painted, […]
