Sketch&Wine.Playing with Colour

June 30, 2016 by Erin Hill Sketching

Wednesday June 29 ’16. This was another chance for sketchers to let loose. Feel the freedom. Get your lines down and use any of the wax crayons, Art Bars, Inktense Pens and even Poster paint for colour. If it makes you happy then why not. Our sketchers enjoyed some wines and interesting cheeses, mixed with a lot of fun,  which always enhances your creative experience. Lots of subjects on the table so pick anything which appeals. This is the essence of […]

Bonjour mon nom est….

July 21, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sketch&French. Monday 9.30am. July 21 ’14 The Studio was a nice warm place to come into on this slightly chilly day. Our students arrive all slightly hesitant about what they’d let themselves in for, as one always is on the first day of anything new.  No need to worry. Sandrine was probably just as worried, as she hadn’t tutored one of our classes before either, but she didn’t show it.  So I was the only one who could happily sit […]

Advanced Sketching beside the Seaside

July 5, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

ADVANCED SKETCHING. 10AM FRIDAY JULY 4 ’14 This weather is remarkable. Only because it’s Winter but behaving like Summer.  Just love it. Makes you so alive. Specially when you’re going sketching! Judy and I had our two classes together today, but we each did our own thing,  although we’re working within the same location. The Advanced Sketchers were trying another new way to sketch. We were putting down mixed colours in watercolour then doing our black line sketch over that when […]

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Sketching & Giving.

May 31, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY 10AM & 11.30AM CLASSES. MAY 29TH 2014. This week we were sketching to raise funds for Cancer Council’s ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’ I’d received the promotional material in the mail before leaving for overseas, and had put it  into our term schedule, so that I could be part of it on my return. Everyone would place a donation in the box provided and we’d be doing something for research as well as enjoying some sketching together.   We’d thought […]

Sketching Teacups & Terrace Houses

May 12, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

This week’s posting comes to you from Toulouse in the South of France. Our girls Painting/Sketching week in our French Village has just come to a close. Sniff sniff. So now we are about to head to Boston. Your tutors have done a marvellous job this week and all the words and pics have flown via the cloud to my little MacAir. Well almost. I seem to missing some teacups but I’m sure you’ll forgive me. Anyway, on with the […]

THURSDAY APRIL 10 ’14  – FINALE OF TERM 1, GROUPS 1-2 “Hello, its Christy here” and you’re joining us on our last class of term, our trip to Cockatoo Island! If you were like me, and had never had the pleasure of visiting this amazing little island nestled rather secretively in the city waterways before, you’d have been immensely excited and treating this like a little bit of an adventure or a holiday away! Those of us who departed on the […]

Sketching Down Mexico Way

March 15, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY MARCH 13 2014. 10am Class. This week we’ve travelled from last week’s cool climate of Scandinavia to  the hot climate and colours of Mexico. We’ve sketched brightly coloured fruit and vegetable still life’s and enjoyed pouring colour one over the other and seeing the pigments work. Using the china graph to scribble in your whites is a great timesaver. You can freely add your colour and know that the white will be maintained as you sweep your colour in. […]

Discovering Manly Cafes

March 3, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

My perfect life would be to live in new and favourite cafes, moving from one to the next. Actually that almost happened this morning. Adeline and I met up to plan our next Sketch&French classes. That was Belgrave Cartel which I love. Next Alissa was arriving on the ferry and we would be looking for a new one I’d been told about. Great timing. I dash to the wharf and there’s Alissa coming through the forecourt. We walk all the […]

Valentine Sketching

February 15, 2014 by Erin Hill Sketching

THURSDAY 10am Class FEBRUARY 13 2014 It’s Valentine’s Day Eve. I saw this scribbled on one of the Students sketchbooks. I like it. We started our class today with a Travel Sketch talk from Tom. He and his very patient wife Pat have travelled through China and Mongolia and by train across Russia. Tom did as much sketching as time (or Pat ) would allow. “We’ll miss the train!’  From his books we could see where he’d been and the […]
