Sketch your Cake at Shangri-La

October 11, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

It’s almost Sketch your Cake time once again. In fact this is the last one for 2013! Oh so soon. Anna from Bathers Pavilion had let me know she’s now the pastry chef at Shangri-La hotel. Atsuko and I decided to make an exploratory trip to the city, to check  it out. We were very impressed with the Lobby Lounge and its very inviting low tables and sofa chairs, which can be moved about a bit. Yes you can get […]

Let’s get Sketching. At home at Daku Resort

September 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Sunday Sept 15 ’13 A cup of tea  on the balcony as the sun rises is a perfect start to the day. It’s not possible to be uptight in Fiji. You can try but it won’t happen. That’s a city thing. I’m not sure I’ll need my watch. Breakfast is a relaxed meeting time and everyone slowly appears. The choice of fresh fruit all grown locally looks beautiful and tastes even more so. Papaya grows all over Savusavu and we […]

The Sketchers arrive. First Afternoon at Daku

September 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Saturday Sept 14 You can hear the fan whirring at first light. You remember where you are. It’s Fiji. The group will arrive later today. Can’t wait. And it’s balmy and warm outside. The sun is streaming across our balcony and its time to rise and shine. My cuppa tea sitting out here never tasted so good. Breakfast seems like a good idea. I love papaya straight off the trees. Milton likes the jam made from apple jelly on his […]

Teapots and Rubber Duckies

August 31, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

This has been a wonderful week in the Studio. In my absence our two very passionate Sketch Tutors Christy and Vivianne have run the show completely. Between them the girls have taken the classes, supervised all activities, taken pics of the students and their work, written the blog postings each day – and tutored. I am delighted. THURSDAY AUGUST 29 ’13 In keeping with the “High Tea” theme this week, we were sketching ‘tea pots, and cups and saucers’ in […]

Sketch your Cake at Hyatt on The Rocks

August 28, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

Well it was a beautiful day in Sydney, and we all felt a little like rather posh tourists taking in our High Tea at the Park Hyatt. Both Christy and I ( being Vivianne )were there so you got two tutors for the price of one! With a stunning view of the harbour and The Rocks, we all took our seats at a long marble table.  Smartly dressed and very polite staff brought out beautifully shaped plate stands filled with […]

Bonjour, Comment ça va? Trés bien merci!

July 29, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

We’re back and beginning another 5 weekly classes of our popular Sketch & French. Such a lovely big group of enthusiastic folk, keen to learn a dash of travel sketching, topped up with enough French to get by somehow when in France. We had a lot of laughs and light moments today, as we got ourselves ready to sketch the French pastries on the table. Fresh this morning from St Rémy Baked at Fairlight. A yummy selection to make two […]

Next Sketch your Cake – March 25 ’14

June 7, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

If this gorgeous sketch doesn’t inspire you to take up your pens and sketchbook, and hurry to join our next “Sketch your Cake’ High Tea – then I’m amazed. I’m pleased to announce we’ve made a special arrangement with the management at Quarantine Station to hold our next High Tea in one of their beautifully restored function rooms. This will mean sketchers will have a unique experience on this wonderful headland of Sydney, with views all the way to the […]

Sketch your Cake- and eat it too

February 27, 2013 by Erin Hill Sketching

This was our first 2013 Sketch your Cake High Tea. When someone says ‘I think I’ve died and gone to heaven’, you know everything is close to perfect. This is Gunner’s Barracks’ an old stone building, once the Officer’s Mess, and now so elegantly set up for dining. With views to Sydney harbour you can’t keep your eyes off, until your High Tea is served. For us it’s much more about the ‘look’ to begin with as all this needs to […]

How did I hold back!

A bite of Raspberry Creme Tartlet

June 18, 2012 by Erin Hill Sketching

Just a yummy little tiny morsel I purchased the other day, the whole idea being to sketch it. Before consuming it of course. I wasn’t planning to do it from memory but it was close. Art comes first! The fresh berry on top was a clue as to the rich flavour  explosion one was about to experience. If you’d like to sketch beautiful cake creations yourself, we have our next delicious ‘Cake Sketching’ High Tea at Bather’s Pavilion on Tuesday […]
